To the Mayor and Members of Council of the Township of Tiny
As you are aware, the governance of the local hospitals has been an issue
of concern for the past 14 months. The appointed supervisor has proposed
a system of future governance that will rob the citizens of their corporate
membership, put in place appointed boards, and eliminate the transparency,
local public accountability and guaranteed accessibility to information
which has served the community in the past. We are the tax payers, volunteers
and donors who support the hospital and we urge you to act now to guarantee
our democratic rights in regards to the hospital. Other municipalities
are joining to express concern over the erosion of democratic options
in hospital governance.
We ask
That: In recognition of public accountability and democratic principles,
the town of Midland hereby supports the efforts of Peter Kormos, MPP to
introduce a Private Member's Bill calling for the public election of all
hospital boards in the Province of Ontario and further,
That : In recognition of public accountability, transparency and democratic
principles, the town of Midland hereby supports the public election of
the local hospital board members in our hospital and further,
That: a letter to that effect be forwarded to Dr Kevin Smith, the Honourable
David Caplan and the newly appointed board members of the new hospital.
Respectfully submitted,
