Sitara Tempest

________

Sita - (SEE-tah) Hindu name which means "furrow" and refers to a mother earth goddess and the wife of the god Rama. The name is also used by the Zuni Indians, who adapted it from the Spanish Zita, which means "rose".

This was taken from "The New Age Baby Name Book" by Sue Browder. In picking a name for her Tempest character, Claire wanted it to be the foundation for everything else about the character. Birthplace, animal, bird, element, quote, history etc...

On a side note, Sita's quote is actually spoken by Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism (Buddhism started in India, not China). He was an Indian prince, who left luxury to search for the usual enlightenment and truth. Buddha believed that the right path was the middle path. What the quote says is that a person should not be at the extremes of anything, like the strings of a sitar.

ANYway. Back to the name.

Since Sita happened to be a Hindu name, it seemed natural for Sita's birthplace to be in India. Also, Sita being a mother earth goddess figure, her element became Earth. In some connection with this, part of Sita's personality made her a sort of nature lover. After some very quick research on the Net, Claire found both the Myna bird and the Cobra were native to India as well.

After another quick search, the name Sitara came up. It was listed in one of the many sites on baby names as a female name, Hindu in origin, meaning "morning star". Being Sage of Sect of the Sun, it sounded pretty cool that Sitara was sort of named after the sun as well. The sun is a star after all, and it's only up in the morning. Ha. Ha. It's not quite... it, but please don't mock Claire, it actually makes sense once you think about it. *lol*

Another thing to be added is that one of Sita's talents is playing the sitar. As stated in her profile, a sitar is a guitar-like instrument that originated from India. Sitar... Sitara.

Ingenious or corny, I leave that up to you. =)
