There has always been something a bit odd about three white guys singing about Jah and praising the same values held dear by such Jamacian musicians as Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. Many bands have tried to do it before, during, and after Sublime's brief career. What Sublime did, however, was make us all believe it. It just seemed natural, even when the snappy Jamacian riddims exploded into hardcore punk rock or brief inflections of blues and folk. It seemed right in it's place. Songs like Romeo, Get Ready, and What I Got may not actually be reggae masterpieces. But they sure do sound like them. [ < prev | next > ] |
