This take on dancehall legend Barrington Levy's ode to love gone wrong is one of two seperate versions done by Sublime, with the other being a more somber acoustic version found on Sublime's Acoustic: Bradley Nowell & Friends release.
The lyrics have been changed from the Barrington Levy track, titled She's Mine, and given Sublime's unique touch and style. Recently, the Sublime offshoot the Long Beach Dub Allstars melted the two versions of this song together (Saw Red and She's Mine) and performed the new song with Barrington Levy for their 1999 debut record, Right Back.

"The composition 'Saw Red' was created out of respect and admiration of the group 'Sublime' for the work of Barrington Levy. The late Bradley Nowell, lead singer of Sublime, took the original Barrington song 'She�s Mine', a Jamaican classic, and rewrote the verses creating the haunting and enigmatic song of love and despair. First recorded by Sublime, with vocals shared by Bradley and guest Gwen Stefani of No Doubt, it appears on the independently released early album of Sublime's title "Robbin the Hood" and again on the MCA release 'Second Hand Smoke'. After Bradley�s tragic death the forming of the Long Beach Dub All Stars by the remaining members of Sublime led to the collaboration with Barrington on this new recording.
