It was all finished long before we tried to repair it. It should have been inevitable, but we didn’t see it, you never do when it affects the people closest. Others have since said that they knew it from the start, as if we had a sign over our heads, foretelling our future. At the time I asked them why we weren’t told, but now I understand, we wouldn’t have believed them. We were in denial, foolishly believing that we’d survive, but now I look back it seems so clear, even to me, that we were never meant to be.
