The Most Common Scams and How To Avoid Them
Secret Aid Society Trading Post Scams Someone will have a post that will say 'Highest bidder gets 16 ubikiberrybags 12 rods of dark nova 10 thoyra's tears 7 Faerie Paint Brushes, and a cheat on how to hack into Neopets to get 1,000,000 Np!' This is the scam. This is someone who thinks you're a moron and will buy into it, and you bid about 7,000 Np on a bottle of green sand. Now you're screwed. The guy makes off with your money, and you're Unbuyable Item-less with a 1 Np bottle of green sand. Shop Scams Contests have been banned on Neopets, but they're still around. Here is an excellent example of a shop scam that gets a lot of people: 'I have this contest every week. Last's week's winner was joe64523schmoe52112. This is not a scam. Just e-mail him and he'll tell you. Here's the contest: all you have to do is spend the most Np and you'll win a Rainbow Paint Brush!' You'll notice that the prices of cheap items (eyeshadow, keychains, lipstick, etc.) are up to around anywhere from 500-10,000 Np. The person the guy is referring you to e-mail is probably another account of his. E-mail Scams Someone Neomails you. You open it says, 'Hey, change your e-mail to [email protected], set it here at Neopets.Com, and tell me the password and I'll give you 3,000 Np!' Wow, this would be so cool if he wasn't trying to take your account! He can say 'Oops, Forgot My Password' and Neopets will send the password to the new e-mail account. Fake Log-In Scam You click some random object in a person's shop, and it takes you to a screen that says you've accidentally logged yourself out! Okay, it takes you to a happy little login page (how conveniant) and asks you for your happy little password. HOLD ON A MINUTE! The address in the address bar is SO long, and you could swear that the login page's URL was http://www.neopets.com/loginpage.phtml! Well if the address at the top is not http://www.neopets.com/loginpage.phtml, you're a click away from having your account stolen. People who have extensive knowlege of HTML can copy any Neopets page exactly- except for the web address. If any page on a neopets site does not begin with http://www.neopets.com/ or have something like http://www.joeschmoe.neopets.com/ then it was not made by Neopets, it is invalid, and you should leave immediately. Neositting Scams 'I will Neosit your account for a while! All I need is your password!' Don't give it to 'em. Shame on you if you do: after reading this, it would serve you right if you got fooled! The only place for your pet to get Neositted is at the NeoLodge, although it is kinda pricy. If you really need your pet babysitted and you're out of Np, you can leave your pet in your account. Neopets don't die. No matter how long you leave them there, they will not die of anything, even starvation. Fake Neopets Team Scams No one on the Neopets Staff will ever ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER ask you for your password! I don't care who they say they are! I don't care if 'their sites are down and we lost your password, we need it again'. You could get an e-mail from some guy, but look closely at their username. is it 'TheNeopetsTeam'? If not, then someone is trying to harm your account. 'TheNeopetsTeam' is the only account the staff at Neopets has, and if someone else syas they are the NeopetsTeam, don't respond to their message and report them immediately. The Truth About Hackers No one in the history of forever on God's green earth has 'hacked' into anyone's account, let alone the Neopets website. When someone says they've been hacked, they actually mean 'I stupidly gave my password to Joe Schmoe over there and he took my account!'
