Terri's Wedding

Oct. 1, 2005

My wedding day was perfect. Dave and I are best friends and had been together 6 1/2 years before we got married.

October 1, 2005 is our wedding day. We have now been married four months and six days and we are in heaven. This was my 2nd and Dave's first. He has no kids and I have 2.

The day was gorgeous. Blue skys and 75 degrees, best day of the month! Dave spent the night before at his brother Rob's house who was also his best man. I stayed home with my DD, my best friend and Maid of Honor Theresa and her daughter, Jennifer. It was great.

Our wedding ceremony was held at a place called The John Summerhill House, located in Pennsgrove, NJ. It is a beautiful completely restored 4 story Victorian Home, now used for weddings. We had 35 close family and friends at the wedding. I walked down this beautiful staircase into my fathe! r's waiting arms. For a couple of seconds, before I came down, all those crazy second thoughts popped into my head, but I knew that I was marrying my soulmate. It was a romantic, intimate ceremony that I will never forget!

We had some pictures taken outside of the house and then we went to The Red Bank National Park (old civil war area) and had pictures taken by the Delaware River.

We held our reception at our local democratic club with about 85 friends and family. We had a blast! Now, we did this all on our own. I planned and did this wedding for under $5,000.00. It was hard, but if you look hard enough, and learn to ask for help it can be done.

Getting married for a second time was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. Learning not to compare my DH to my ex was very difficult. One night in January, 2005, I came across this website called The Knot. I lurked for a while, mostly on my local board and found I could not relate to the first timers. Here I was 42, getting married a 2nd time and I had kids. I felt so alone.

Then one night, I was checking out all the boards and found one called "Second Weddings". Could I be in luck, were there actually other women in my situation, oh, but were they catty like the rest? I needed support, help and reassurance....hmm, I said, let me check this out. I lurked for 5 days, and then decided to post and introduce myself...tell my story and hold! my breath. I have never felt more welcome in my life. Here were women that had no idea who I was just jumping into what I felt was "their territory".

I was welcomed with open arms by Sampros, Pearlie, Lawfrog, Lynn, truckerbride, sasseegirl and everyone else. I knew then that this wedding was going to be stressful to plan, especially with Mom and MOH in Florida and me in NJ, but these ladies stood by me every step of the way. Not onlyt hat, but they opened up their private, family life to me just like a friend would do. That is what I have found, friends for life. I have yet to meet any of these amazing women, but I sure hope to one day. Thank you to all my Second Nesties, I love you all so much! 1
