When we recieve an animal the first step is a check up. We assess the animal for any obvious health or temper problems and decide on the best course of action. If nothing is found they are quarantined with us for an average of 3 weeks. During that time we are able to handle and observe the animal in a variety on different situations which helps us build the profiles that you see on our site of available adoptions. Of course 3 weeks isn't enough to write a complete novel but it gives us, And the potential adopter a good start.

Sometimes we find problems that would make it difficult or impossible for us to safely place an animal. When we encounter this, One of two things happens.
Our first option is to keep the animal with us to live out the course of it's natural life. We have several disabled and aggressive animals here who will be permanant residents.

Secondly, When we are able we place them with other rescues for educational purposes. They are often times used to educate people on the consequinces of improper care or sometimes we are even lucky enough to find someone able to care for them just the way they are.

When we have a healthy animal, Who has gone through the quarantine, It is then placed on our site as an avalable adoption, You can find those Here. When someone contacts us about an available animal we begin the screening process. The first step is a phone or email interview where we will be asking questions about how you will care for and house the animal you are interested in. This gets very detailed especially concerning reptiles as those are the most frequently returned adoptions and I don't always get them back in good condition :o(

After that we will arrange to meet in person with the animal you have decided to adopt. We will ask a few more questions and observe how you interact with the animal, And in most cases we will ask to see where the animal will be kept. If it is a small animal/reptile you can bring it's accomodations with you for the interview. If it is livestock/dog/cat we will make the trip to see for ourselves and if that's not possible for us at the time it is stipulated in ALL contracts that we are granted access to the animal for the next year and have the authority to take said animal back if at any time we feel it's being improperly cared for.

If all of the above is ok then the only other thing we ask for is a picture of you and your new family member to post on our site of happy endings. :o)
