"I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for
harvest." John 4:35 (NIV) Currently I am with the mission agency, Ripe for Harvest established in
1995 as a non-profit religious corporation, by Tim Smith, a pastor who saw
a need. Even in doing the work of the Lord we still live in a world of
rules, regulations, "seeming order". You must follow certain procedures
even in your service.
The three primary objectives of Ripe For Harvest are
1) To provide an enviroment for Christians to commit their time and
talents to mission assignments abroad.
2) To establish new programs of outreach and ministry, and strentgthen
existing programs and organizations which ahve a similiar purpose and
dedication presenting Christ as Saviour.
3) To serve as an instrument through which individuals may be witnesses to
our Lord Jesus Christ.
At present there are 60 plus, singles, couples, or teams operating under
the aegis of Ripe For Harvest, half are spread across the world in 33
different countries.
When I first met Pastor Smith in 1994, I was struck by the words he used as
criteria to be a laborer for the Lord in the mission field. They were,
"called, gifted, enabled and provided for". We know Our Lord said many are
called, few are chosen. We also know, that many gifts are available to
believers, not all of us are gifted to work in the nursery or to lead the
choir, or to leave a comfortable apartment, a great family church and
reliable plumbing, running water, electricity, phone lines.
As I see enabling is a combination of talent, competence and means, which
go hand in hand with the provision. All come from God, but the enablement
and provision come through His people.
