NCAA Tournament Selection Criteria

Our NCAA Tournament selection process utilizes a system in which we use “RPI points” and “RPI ratings  Our RPI system is based only loosely on the real life RPI system, but will allow us determine relative team power at the end of a season.  NCAA Tournament bids and seeding will be determined by these RPI ratings, as well as the roll of dice, and the random selection of teams from “pool envelopes.”

Each win during the season will earn a certain number of  “RPI points,” depending on the quality of the win.  The “quality” of a non-conference victory will be based on the (real-life) RPI rating of the team beaten.

For Non-conference games:

A road win over a Top 4 (RPI) team is worth 2.1 RPI pts.

A home win over a Top 4 team is worth 1.5 pts

A road win over a #5-10 ranked (RPI) team is worth 1.4 pts.

A home win over a #5-10 ranked team is worth 1.1 pts.

A road win over a #11-15 ranked (RPI) team is worth 1.2 pts.

A home win over a #11-15 ranked team is worth 1 pt.

A road win over a #16-30 ranked (RPI) team is worth 1 pt.

A home win over a #16-30 ranked team is worth .7 pts.

A road win over a #31-55 ranked (RPI) team is worth .6 pts.

A home win over a #31-55 ranked team is worth .3 pts.

A road win over a #56-100 ranked (RPI) team is worth .3 pts.

A home win over a # 56-100 ranked team is worth  .2 pts.

A road win over a #101-200 ranked team is worth .1 pt.

A home win over a #101-200 ranked team is worthless.

Any win over a team ranked #201 or higher is worthless.

For Conference games:

Each regular season home conference victory is worth 1.1 RPI point.

Each regular season road conference victory is worth 1.3 pts.

Each SEC Tournament victory is worth 1.3 pts (excluding preliminary round, which is worthless).

The SEC Tournament Championship is worth an additional 1.2 RPI pt.
