The Current Emblem represents the
"Fighter" Squadron designation.

Description

On a disc, bordered in yellow, a Samurai Warrior detailed in black, red, white, and yellow, rides a yellow lightning bolt through light blue clouds on a dark blue background, holding a sword raised in his left hand and gripping an aircraft control stick with his right hand, atop the lightning bolt.

Significance

The Samurai represents the squadron's warrior spirit, while the sword symbolizes its ability to deal with aggressors the the free world. The red on the Samurai represents our brethren who have died in defense of freedom. The Samurai flies on a lightning bolt, which is a tribute to the squadron's first aircraft, the P-38 Lightning. The Samurai's sidestick represents the latest in fighter technology.Blue and yellow are the Air Force colors. The dark blue background and light blue clouds represent the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. The yellow outline and wording represent the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel.
