THE DISEASE
Lyme Disease is the illness caused after an individual is bitten by a tick infected with the Borrelia burgdorferi bacterium.
People who contract Lyme Disease more often than not are also Co-Infected with other bacterium the tick is carrying - Babesia, Erlichia (Anaplasmosis), and Bartonella.
SYMPTOMS
Lyme Disease symptoms include but are not limited to; The Bulls-Eye Rash, Fatigue (wired & tired), Chronic Exhaustion, Fever, Headache, Brain-Fog, Depression, Air-Hunger, and whole range of neurologic symptoms just to name a few.
CO-EXISTING ILLNESSES/ RELATED ILLNESSES
Lyme Disease can also co-exist with other illnesses such as Morgellons, Sogrens, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Fibromyalgia (FMS), Neurally Mediatated Hypotension (NMH/POTS), Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), Lyme Induced Autism (LIA) just to name a few.
DIAGNOSIS
Diagnosis is done through Lab Tests and clinical observation.
TREATMENT
Treatment for Lyme Disease vary considerably. Pharmaceuticals including Antibiotics, Anti-Parsitics, Anti-Bacterials, and Anti-Fungals are used. Strong Herbal regimens are also used. Detox regimens using strong chelators are used. Mindfulness meditation, Qi Gong, and Yoga are used. Vitamin infusion therapies are used. A wide range of Energy Medicine techniques are used. This can vary from NAET and BIOSET to Donna Eden's Energy Medicine Techniques. Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Therapies like RIFING can be used. Electro-Stimulation can be used. Diet modification can be used. Eastern Medicine like Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be used.
OUTLOOK
The outlook is promising. Patients have lots of treatment options. However, treatment can take years and be grueling.
CONTROVERSY
Lyme Disease is steeped in controversy. The Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) and the International Lyme And Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) are directly opposed to one another in the way they recommend treatment for patients. The IDSA believes that a 30-day Antibiotic regimen to treat Lyme Disease should be sufficient whereas ILADS believes that long-term Antibiotic treatment is indicated. This has led to direct attack by the established medical community on Lyme Disease Practitioners in the form of revoking practitioners licenses and subsequently limiting patients choices.
