Support, Follow-up
And Re-enforcement

Support

This means involvement of others. You cannot recover in isolation

TOTAL RECOVERY INVOLVES THE HELP AND SUPPORT OF A VARIETY OF PEOPLE

In order for others to help you, they must know about your relapse warning signs, and care about you enough to be willing to tell you when they notice these warning signs.
You must also be willing to talk to these people on a regular basis so they will notice when something is going wrong.
You must be willing to listen and act upon what they say. This involves trust
It is important to select significant individuals in your life who are willing to become involved in the network of your relapse prevention.
A good tool is to role play a situation when you might be at your worst. Role play in a situation which you are showing warning signs, and deny these symptoms.
Allow them to rehearse what they will do to help you interrupt the relapse syndrome.

Allow the intervention network to participate in your recovery !!

Follow-up and Re-enforcement

Addiction does not go away.
There is no magic bullet or "cure".
It is a life-long chronic disease.
It becomes progressive if not arrested.
Recovery from addiction is a way of life.
Since relapse prevention planning is a part of recovery, it too must become a way of life.
In order for it to work, relapse prevention planning must be integrated into your entire life and every aspect of your recovery.
Relapse prevention must be practiced until it becomes a habit.
It is only in the habit and structure of a daily sobriety program that you can find freedom from enslavement of addiction.
You must be willing to revise and up-date your relapse prevention plans at regular intervals.
You must be willing to recognize new problems that jeopardize your sobriety.

RELAPSE PREVENTION PLANNING IS A PROCESS
THAT SHOULD BECOME
AN INTEGRAL PART OF YOUR RECOVERY
