"You couldn't be ordinary if you tried.."
"Really? I don't think there's anything worse than being ordinary."
>>>American Beauty (Written by jan)
American Beauty is the thought provoking tale written by Alan Ball,
directed by Broadway directer, Sam Mandez. It is the story of 42 year old
Lester Burnham who, he announces promply into the movie, will be dead
in less than a year, and his family. His wife Carolyn is a real estate
agent with little joy in her life. Janie is Lester and Carolyn's
daughter who is seeimgly unhappy and lonely. As the movie progresses, you meet
Angela, Lester's dream girl. He dreams of her in many situations
(mostly sexual) and when in the dream things get intense, Lester finds the
apperence of rose petals somewhere near him. There is also Ricky Fitts,
Janie's love interest who could easily be mistaken for an obsessive
stalker. Carolyn finds some joy in her life, when she meets Buddy, the real
estate king! The plot is so intricate and very crazy. The movie deals
with so many issues in life, cheating, love, pedaphilia, and even life
in general. The movie is not only brillian but insanly funny Same say
it's strange, but I just call it life in a suburban American society.
>>>But I'm a Cheerleader! (Written by jan)
No, I'm not poking fun at the athletic angels in skirts, because I know
they work their butts off and work just as hard as anyone else. I'm
actually talking about the movie But I'm a Cheerleader. The movie is set
in a very plain suburban town that looks as clean cut as the 50's. This
is where we meet Megan, a typical cheerleader. But later on the veiwer
learns she may not be your typical
cheerleader-dates-the-football-player kind of girl. In fact, we find evidence (though not very sufficent) that Megan is a lesbian. Her parent are appauled by this and send her to a Place called True Directions, which is kind of like "homosexuals anonymous" as Megan's mother puts is. Once Megan arrives at True Directions she learns the 5 steps to becoming a heteroseuxal. The movie uses colors, particularly bright pink and blue to represent the way things should be in life, because the people at True Directions seemingly want to
change you. With memorable character like Grahamm, Andre, Dolf, and Sinead
you'll always be kept laughing and maybe learn a lesson too. Did I
mention the unforgettable soundtrack which makes the movie so much better.
It can be described as very feminist and pro-homosexual. Numerous are
by maybe not so known names as Tattle Tale, Bressy Bessy, Go Sailor, and
April March. The music is very catchy and the movie itself is funny. I
don't think it would offend homosexuals because it is ment to be
lighthearted, but you never know.
>>>Adolescence by cera
The Accidents are back better than ever, with a CD! The band now consists of Justin Accident on drums, Andrea Heartache on vocals, Jamieson Hotshot on guitar, and Johnny Ridgefield on bass.
Recorded at the end of last year, Adolescence opens with "Fuck Western Mass", an "ode" to ignorant music fans. The song escalates to Jamieson's guiatr solo- flat out amazing. Many of the songs include similarly amazing solos.
In the next song, there's a noticeable change. Where Andrea's Gwen Stefani-Agent M hybrid vocals graced the previous track, Jamieson's voice is heard. A somewhat disappointing change, but fear not, she sings other tracks.
One song where the switchoff works very well is track 6, "Nuke the Whales", where Jamieson acheives a rant-quality that is reminiscent of Jello Biafra. How Jello would feel about the title of the song, however, is questionable.
The only thing about the CD that's a little sketchy is the recording quality. At times, the vocals become a bit drowned out. However, the band's talent shines through and it's still obvious they're fucking amazing.
