LUKE'S BLUNDERS

Quirinius, the governor of Syria?

(Luke 2:1-5) And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the
world should be taxed. (
And this taxing was first made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.). And all went to be
taxed
, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea,
unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be
taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

There is no historical record of a universal census at the time specified by Luke; the Roman custom of taxation
was based on the individual's place of residence, not his place of ancestry; Quirinius was governor of Syria
during the years A.D. 6-9, some ten years after the birth of Jesus.

Jesus sent 72 Disciples?

According to Luke, Jesus  selected 72 Disciples, and sent them to different cities to preach his teachings there. They went to different cities and performed different miracles, which details Luke has described in Luke 10:1-20. But surprisingly Matthew, Mark and John do not mention in their Gospels that if Jesus ever selected 72 disciples and sent them on a mission. They all mention only 12 disciples, and Mark has described the same event in Mark 6:7 by mentioning only 12 disciples.

In Luke 10:1-20, after making the blunder, Luke claims that when all those 72 disciples came back to Jesus, Jesus became happy and prayed to God:

(Luke 10:21) And at that very time he (Jesus) rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said "I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in your sight."

Luke was so narrow-minded that he wrongly mentioned Jesus' sending of his 72 disciples, and when those disciples came back, Jesus rejoiced and prayed to God. But actually Jesus himself went to different cities to preach his message and then prayed to God with the same words as Luke described in Luke 10:21. For details see the 11th chapter of Matthew, and the same pray of Jesus can be found in Matthew 11:25.
