Once the game did start though, the Sox came out swinging and scored 4 and 3 runs in the first two innings respectively to open up a 7-2 lead. The offense was all Fisher (3-4, 2HR, 2B, 5 RBI) who also played a solid game at third after shaking off an injury on a play at the plate. Sox Edged by Unity June 26: This game was a defensive battle with neither team tearing the cover off the ball. In the end, Unity escaped with a 4-3 victory. Liberty Takes Down Sox June 11: The Sox dropped a heart breaker to a solid Liberty-M team by the score of 12-11. The Sox took a one-run lead into the bottom of the seventh, but Liberty-M came through with some clutch hitting. Schaefer was the offensive star for the Sox, who fell just a HR short of the cycle. Sox Get by JMP June 10: The Black Sox survived against JMP winning the game 10-9. It didn't look like JMP would have enough players, but they picked up the Union High School JV team that happened to be at the field and almost stole a game from the Sox. The Sox took an early lead, but then the bats fell silent again. The defense was able to hold on to take the one-run victory, their second straight. Sox Win 10 - 4 June 05: The Black Sox swept the season series with the Vanness by taking the second game 10-4. But, the Sox bats didn't do much again. Sues hit a leadoff bomb in the sixth. Joe's Place just had too many hits for the Sox to keep up. Captain Nimrod Strikes Again! June 02: The make-up game scheduled for June 02 at 7:45 PM was inadvertantly canceled by the league director without officially telling the Black Sox. It was a miscommunication that will hopefully not happen again. The sad part was that Liberty-M was at the field for a 6:30 PM game, but just grabbed their stuff and left after a futle attempt by the league director to get them to play. Black Sox Fall to Stable May 29: The Sox four game winning steak game to an end with a 5-4 loss to Stable. It was a defensive battle that the home team eventually won. There really were no offensive highlights as the Sox bats stayed quiet again. The Stable pitcher actually took a perfect game into the fourth inning when Celgene Diddy broke it up with a double to right. The defense kept the Sox in the game. Kandell made the catch of the year in left, a running over the shoulder grab before crashing into the fence that saved at least two runs. Sox Get by Unity May 22: The Black Sox won their fourth straight game last night to move to 5-2 on the season. The Sox beat a scrappy Unity team by the score of 7-6. The Sox bats were silent in all but the fourth inning, where they busted out all 7 of their runs for the game. Carrell lead off the inning with a triple and later singled in a run in his second at bat of the inning. The defense was again the story for the Sox. Birthday boy, Syntscha, made a several nice catches in right center and Skilo made a play or two over at third. Good times for the Sox, who will look to enjoy the long weekend after two 9PM games this week. Rain Out May 20: The weather kept the Sox off the field for their game against Liberty-M. Sox Win Second Straight May 15: The Black Sox held off a decent Fresh Squeezed team 8-7 to record their second straight win and third on the young season. Also, it might have been the Sox very first win on field #1 in four years. Big thanks to Ed B for filling out the starting roster on late notice and for chipping with a couple hits. The Sox bats again did just enough to get the win. Ths Sox have a busy week coming up with three 9 PM games all as the ways boys. Sox Pitcher Issues Apology May 15: Sean T would like to apologize to all who witnessed his embarrassing act of frustration at the Sox 8-7 win against Fresh Squeezed, where the pitcher yelled a "bad word" at his favorite umpire after a close call in the sixth inning. The sad part is if he had slid into second base, the play never would have happened. The pitcher has vowed to "keep it clean" from here on out. ...Sorry, Sox - SeanieT Sox D Up Blazers May 13: The Black Sox (2-2) got back to .500 by taking down the Blazers by the score of 8-4. Fish set the tone early with a two-run bomb in the top of the first. And later he knocked down a seed off a Blazer bat with his forearm at third base and still got the out at first. The defense was the story for the Sox. The Blazers got 4 runs in the first two innings, but were shut out the rest of the way. And the Sox bats did enough to double up the Blazers for their second win of the season. Sox Fall to Glendale May 08: The Black Sox dropped their second straight game last night, this time to Glendale by the score of 11-6. The Sox again owe a thanks to the Blackthorn Brewers and Jarrett for filling out the roster. Sox Beat Up by the Generals May 07: The Black Sox dropped thier first game of the young season to a beatable Generals team, 17-5 in six innings. The Sox had to delay the start of the game to bring the Brew Crew over from Field #4, big thanks to Donahue, Bitner, and Nicastro for helping us out! The Sox threatened to put a big number a few times in the game, but never delivered. Sox Take Down Vaness May 01: The Black Sox got the 2008 season going with a 16-2 victory over Vaness in only 4 1/2 innings. Rain threatened to turn the Sox away from their second straight game, but the weather held off and the Sox started hitting. An eleven-run second inning put Vaness on the ropes early, but it was the Black Sox defense that keyed their first win of the season. There were several nice plays, but the running catch with a spike throw to first to double off a Vaness runner by rookie Mike Syntscha was the highlight. It was a solid victory to open up the season for the Black Sox.
