2007 Season Upcoming
The 2007 season is scheduled to begin the first week of May. Lights are being installed on Field #1, which will minimize the number of games we play with overlapping outfields. More details to follow. Stats are updated...
2007 Schedule Almost Released
19-Apr-2007
The 2007 Union recreation Mens Softball League schedules were handed out as scheduled on Tuesday April 17th. And, shockingly, the schedule was rescinded by the league director less than 24 hours later. The season will still open on Tuesday, May 1st. The Sox open the season against much improved Luigis team at 7:45 PM on Filed #1. The second game of the season is set for a 6:30 PM start against Liberty Tavern on Field # 5. The rest of the schedule will be finalized shortly by the commish, aka Captain Nimrod.
Perfect Schedule Destroyed by League Director
24-Apr-2007
The original league schedule could not have been better for the Sox. Only one 6:30 game and five 9:00 games with the remaining 12 games at our requested game time of 7:45 PM. It was perfect, couldnt have been better if we designed the schedule ourselves. In steps Captain Nimrod and drops an additional three 6:30 games on the Sox. 6:30 games are near impossible for more than half of the Blacksox regulars. Team members drive from Vorhees, Princeton, Long Branch, Roseland, and other distant locations, and others are just held down by the man. The Sox had enough to deal with, no need for Captain Nimrod to throw up another roadblock to a Sox Championship.
Paddys Win Opener, 14 - 13
01-May-2007
The Blacksox got a win in dramatic fashion in their opening game of the 2007 season. Big-hitting rookie, Jay Marett knocked a walk-off single to bring home the victory for Paddys. It was a battle for the Sox as new-look Luigis team kept pace the entire game. More details to follow
Blacksox Hold Off Liberty Tavern, 13 11
03-May-2007
The Sox got win number two on the young season by scoring eight runs in the second inning and fighting off a solid come back from Liberty Tavern. The Paddys roster was depleted for this game with seven regular players out because of work, travel, or injuries. But with solid pitching from Mike Show-kay Bobal and stellar defense from right-fielder Dont call me Lenny Schaef-Dawg the Sox were able put away the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season. Big thanks to Babaganush Goldman, Diddy, and Blanchard for giving the Sox a full squad for this game.
Rough Week
10-May-2007
Paddys dropped to 2-2 on the year with two losses in the second week of the season. On Tuesday May 08 the Sox lost a close one to defending champion Buffys, 18 14. The Blacksox kept in this one by staging a nice comeback with an eight run fifth inning, but fell short in the end. On Thursday, the Sox didnt put up much of a fight against Stable losing 18 3 in five innings. Paddys will look to rebound next week against two newcomers in Redwood and Liberty Tavern II.
Blacksox Fall Hard x2
20-May-2007
The Blacksox dropped two more games in the third week of the season to bring their record to 2-4 on the year. On Tuesday May 15, the Sox lost their second straight game by the score of 18 3, this time to newcomers Redwood. Paddys didnt put up much a fight as the game lasted only three and a half innings. On Thursday, the Sox got a moral victory by playing all seven frames against Liberty Tavern II, but still lost their forth straight game, this one by the score of 19 6. However, Thursday was an awesome night at Paddys after the game, highlighted by a sterling performance of Genesis Land of Confusion by Blacksox left center fielder Mark Darcy and Blacksox legend Dale Wirkus.
Paddy's Delivers in Final Frame
24-May-2007
HUGE game for the Sox! Paddy's rallied from a 7-run deficet in the bottom of the seventh to bring home the victory against a solid Fleming & Sons team. The Sox strung together six consecutive hits, all with two outs, to end the game. Fisher earned himself the game ball with the walk-off single.
Blacksox Drop Two More
29-May-2007
Another rough week for the Sox. Paddy's fell to Sun Tavern in 4 1/2 innings. And then dropped the second game of the week to Luigi's in 5 1/2 innings. The Blacksox season record is now at 3 - 6.
Paddy's Takes Down Liberty Tavern
05-Jun-2007
The Sox swept the season series against Liberty Tavern, winning the second game of the series by the score of 15-3 in four and a half innings. Paddy's took this one in fine fashion, making all the plays in the field and turning the lineup over a few times at the plate. Big thanks to Donahue, Ed, and Scott for filling out the Sox lineup and then going a combined 7 for 8 in the victory.
Blacksox Drop Close One to Buffy's
07-Jun-2007
As usual the Sox stepped up against the perenial league power, Buffy's. With a pieced together line-up the Sox held tough losing by a score of 10-9. Big thanks to Schaef's friend with a laser-rocket arm, Jarett, and Jimmy for giving the Sox enough guys to play the game.
Sox Beat Stable
, 14-8. 12-June-2007
Blacksox Bombed by Redwood
, 30-4. 14-June-2007
19-Jun-2007
The Sox picked up another big win with a 14-8 victory over a solid ORiellys team. The Blacksox went down early 6 to 1 in the first inning, but stayed strong defensively allowing only 2 in the final 6 frames. Carrell hit a 3 run bomb in the 4th and Fisher added some insurance in the 7th with a 3 run shot. The official good luck charm for the Sox, Diddy Donahue went 3 for 4 on the night. Paddys moved one game under .500 with three games remaining.
