Paddys Falls in Finals
Aug 11, 2005
Apple Coring Takes East Division crown from Sox in best of three series.  It was a disappointing end to a fine season for the beloved Paddy's Place Blacksox.  The Sox took the first game of the sieres, but then dropped the next two to a deserving Apple Coring team.  The Sox look forward to getting their title back next season.

Paddys Advances to Finals, Beats Luigis

Paddy's Whoops Joe's Place
Aug 2, 2005
The Blacksox got through the first round of the playoffs by destroying Joe's Place/PBA by the score of 19-4.  The game ended after four inning by the 15-run mercy rule.  More details to come...
The second round of the playoffs is scheduled for Tuesday Aug 9th at 6:30 PM.  Sox management is making an attempt to move the game to a later time that night.  If the game is moved or not the Sox will be the home team against Luigi's.  Luigi's upset Teacher Painting in the first round to earn the game against the Sox.  The Sox took down Luigi's in both meetings in the regular season by a combined score of 32-11.  However, this is the playoffs and the Sox expect a very competitive game this Tuesday.
The Sox are also looking forward to the Trentonian Softball Tournament this Saturday.  The Sox first game will be at 11:00 AM at a field in Hamilton.  Directions and other info will be emailed out soon.

Blacksox Back-in to Regular Season Title
July 19, 2005
It didnt go as planned Tuesday night at Biertuempfel Park for Paddy's.  The defending champs dropped their fifth game of the season, this one to A-League O'Rielly's by the mercy rule in the fifth inning.  However, the Blacksox clinched their second consecutive regular season title because of a Stable loss to Sun Tavern.
O'Rielly's beat up the Sox pretty good.  The third place A-League team smashed a few balls past the Sox outfield and they turned a couple nice double plays in the field.  Short stop, Jason Carrell had one of the Sox only offensive highlights with a solo homer in the forth inning allowing the game to continue as the Sox escaped the mercy rule by just one run in that frame.  Parenti hit a bomb with the bases loaded in the first inning, but it was called foul.  Parenti would single in two runs with his next swing.  It was not an ideal way to take the crown, but the Sox will take it, as they will be very short-handed in the regular season finale against Erisco.

Blacksox Blow Out Stable
July 12, 2005
Paddys revenged their first loss of the season Tuesday night as they ran over Stable, beating the second place team by the score of 16-4.  The game ended by the mercy rule in the fifth when Paddys opened up the flood gates and scored 11 runs.  It was a battle before the fifth with the Sox getting their first run in the second inning on a Rossetti RBI single.  The Sox got four more in the third, but would give four back in the top of the fifth inning, taking a one run lead into the bottom of the frame.  Thats when the doors flew off the Stable and the Sox ended the game by the 12-run I-got-my-a$$-kicked rule.  And to top it off Stable had to hear it from the unusually large Lincoln-Tech crowd routing on the Sox.  In the big inning, Schaef singled in two runs, Carrell doubled in two more and Skillo had a bases-loaded triple.  The win gives the Sox a commanding two game lead in the standings with only two games to play.  A win next Tuesday against ORiellys would wrap up the Blacksox second consecutive regular season title.  The playoffs are tentatively scheduled to start on August 2.

Thompson, Sox Rattled by Sun Tavern
July 7, 2005
Sun Tavern beat up the Sox Thursday night by the score of 19-7.  It was the Sox forth loss of the season dropping their record to 12-4.  Sun Tavern opened the game by batting around and putting up seven runs in the process and they added 2 more in the second inning, but the Sox had no answer in either of those frames.  After Thompson grounded out to end a 1-2-3 fifth inning for the Sox, the quick-pitching Sun Tavern hurler was so firmly entrenched in Thompsons head, the Sox pitcher became more rattled than Arthur Rhodes against any Yankee lefty.  He surrendered 10 more runs to Sun Tavern for a total of 19 in the game.  The Sox got a little offense going in the sixth inning scoring six runs narrowly avoiding the mercy rule.  Wirkus had a solid game going 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored.  Kandell went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.  And Carrell had a solid comeback performance going 3 for 3.  Paddys will need to turn it up against Stable next Tuesday.

Blacksox Ring Libertys Bell
June 30, 2005
Paddys won their 13th game of the season Thursday night beating Liberty 7-3.  It was a defensive battle as there were no runs scored after the second inning.  The Sox got their first six runs in the first inning on seven singles, six of which were consecutive.  Kandell and Bobal both drove in 2 runs and Angry and Schaefer had an RBI a piece in the frame.  Zarwi opened the second with a double, and after an embarrassing strikeout by Thompson, Darcy singled in the run for the Sox seventh and final run of the game.  The defense was the key for the Sox.  Liberty Tavern got all three of their runs in the second inning, one courtesy of a Don Huff triple.  After that, the Sox D was solid.  The Sox got the first two outs of the seventh inning on a sweet Bobal-Wirkus double play.  It was a solid effort against a good team.

Paddys Slams Erisco
June 28, 2005
The Blacksox picked up their eleventh win of the season by milking Erisco Tuesday night by the score of 17-2.  The game was moved from field #4 to field #5 in a time saving move, but the contest ended in the bottom of the 4th by the 15-run rule in a very manageable 50 minutes.  The Sox put up their best offensive display in three games including a nine-run second inning in which the Sox had seven hits and three walks.  Both Parentis went yard.  Bobes tripled in a run.  Darcy went 3 for 3 with a bomb, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored.  And Dale ended the ballgame with a 2 RBI single in the fourth.  The Blacksox (11-3) put forth a solid effort at the plate as well as in the field.

Buffys Slays Blacksox
June 23, 2005
Buffys had too much offense for the Sox to handle Thursday night, as the top team in the A-League handed the Sox a 228 loss.  Paddys Blacksox dropped their second game in a row, falling to 10-3 on the season.  The Sox had a 2-1 lead in the second inning, but then Buffys unloaded in the top of the third, scoring 11 runs in the frame.  The Sox got 5 runs in the fifth inning, 2 on a Zarwi 2RBI single where Wirkus scored on a sweet slide at home.  But the Sox went quietly after that inning.  However, the Sox were only the second team to play all seven innings against Buffys.  The A-League leaders have ended all their other games by the mercy rule.   The Sox will look to get back in the win column Tuesday June 28 versus Erisco.

Apple Crush
June 14, 2005
Apple Coring handed Paddy's Blacksox their second loss of the season by the score of 20-5.  This one ended after 4 innings of play for the 15-run mercy rule.  It was a rough game for the short-handed Sox, but they'll look to get back on track Thursday v. Stable, the team who gave Paddy's their first loss.  The Thursday game has been moved to 8:15 PM, a welcomed changed from the always unpopular 9:00 PM start.

Paddys Takes Two, Sox Move to 10-1
June 9, 2005
In the first game of Thursdays double-header the Sox slammed Joes Place/PBA by the score of 17 11.   The game had an interesting beginning as a few of the officers had to miss the game because of a car jacking in Newark, so Joes Place started the game with only 8 players.  The Sox loaned them a catcher hoping to avoid any traffic violations in the Union area.  By the third inning Joes Place found a couple players lying around and made it a tough game for the Sox, as the score was tied going into the seventh inning.  The Sox got first crack, and delivered a six-spot.  Parenti, Angry, Andriolla, and Skillo hit consecutive singles to open the frame.  Then Bobal delivered the big blast with a 3-run jack.  And Phat Al hit a solo shot for the Sox 17th run of the game.   The Sox defense then blanked the officers in the bottom half to bring home their ninth victory of the year.  Rossetti and Parenti both had good games at the plate, each going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a RBI.

The Sox didnt even get off the field before the second game of the double-header began.  Luigis stepped right into the batters box and the Sox stepped all over the Oakland As posers, ending it after 5 innings, by the score of 15-3.  Angry went 3 for 3 with a two-run homer and 4 RBIs.  Skillo hit three frozen ropes, scored 2 runs, and drove in another.   Schaef-dawg went 3 for 3.  And Andriolla singled twice in the game.

No Game Thursday June 2
June 1, 2005
The league director has cancelled the game tomorrow at the request of Blacksox management.  The game will be rescheduled later in the season.  There was also another schedule change.  The Sox next game June 7th has been cancelled.  That game will be played as part of a double-header on Thursday June 9th.  Game one on June 9th will be against Joes Place/PBA at 7:45 PM and game 2 will be at 9:00 PM against Luigis.  Both games will be on Field # 4.

Ugly Win
May 31, 2005
Paddys Place beat Regional Bar by the score of 26-22 in one of the most disgusting softball games ever played.  There was a lot of errors, a ton of hits, and a crap-load of runs.  The Sox fought hard through some tough defensive innings and stayed in the game.  And with some help from the Regional Bar D, the Sox scored 12 runs in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

Parenti / Lisa Win 2nd Annual W.S. of Beer Pong
May 29, 2005
The second annual World Series of Beer Pong was won by our own right-center fielder, Jason Parenti, and Lisa Kelleher, girl friend of Sox third baseman, Jon Fisher. It was a gorgeous day and a great tourney. The 14-team tourney ended with JC and Gary losing twice to the eventual champs in the finals. Big thanks to the hosts, Carm and Darce, for an awesome day.

Paddy's Back on Track
May 26, 2005
The Blacksox got back into the win column Thursday night by taking out Teacher Paining 18 - 10.  The Sox completed the season sweep of the painters bringing their record to 7 - 1 for the season.  The Sox began the game with nine players and an interesting defensive alignment with Parenti at 3B, Rossetti at 2B, Schaef at 1B, and Zarwi on the hill.   The Painters would get on the board with 3 runs, but Paddys would get them right back plus some more.  Kandell and Carrell hit back to back jacks in the bottom of the first as part of a 5 run inning.  And the Sox never looked back from there.  Andriola broke out with a 3 for 4 night including a 3-run moon shot in the 4th inning.  Darcy got into one in the 6th inning with a 2-run bomb, completing a 3 for 4 night with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Paddys will look to keep it going against Regional Bar on Tuesday May 31.

Blacksox Fall to Stable
May 24, 2005
The Sox dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday night to a solid Stable team by the score of 13-12.  It was the Sox first loss in seven games in the 2005 season snapping a 12 game winning streak going back to last year.  The Sox scored some runs with a 5 run second inning highlighted by a Rossetti 3-run blast into left-center.  The Sox also put together a solid 5th inning scoring 6.  Andriloa knocked a two-run double in that frame.  Rossetti knocked in a run in the top of the seventh, but the Sox couldnt get the tying run across.   Stable found some holes in the Paddys Place defense and had just enough to get by the Sox.  Stable sits atop the division with a 6-1 record.  The Sox will have to look forward to the rematch on Thursday June 16th.

Blackthorn Gets First Win
May 23, 2005
The Blackthorn Brewers broke into the win column Monday night after an 0-4 start.  The Brewers brought the bats and got their first win by the mercy rule.  For those not aware the Blackthorn Brewers are in the league we won last year and are managed by none other than Brian "Diddy" Donahue.

Bobal Takes the Plunge
Congratulations go out to our own Michael Bobal and his new bride Melissa who took the vows on May 21, 2005.  Have fun on the honeymoon, Bobals!

Paddys Drills Apple Coring
May 19, 2005
The offensive machine known as the Paddys Place Blacksox kept on running Thursday night as the Sox downed Apple Coring by a score of 17 10 and moved to 6 0 on the season.  JC belted a three-run jack in the first inning to get the wheels moving.  Kandell knocked a two-RBI triple in the third.  Fisher played a great game at third, hit four singles, scored four runs, had two RBIs, two head first slides, and ran down seventeen foul balls (a new league record).  Phat Al continued his torrid hitting pace with a 3 for 3 night and four runs scored.  Parenti chipped in with 3 RBIs.  And Angry checked in with a 3 for 4 night.  Apple Coring played well, but just didnt have enough to keep up with the Sox.  Stable should present another challenge for the Sox this Tuesday night.

Blacksox Meatball Luigis
May 17, 2005
Luigis didnt have the bats to hang with the Blacksox on Tuesday night as Paddys Place improved their record to 5-0 with a 17-8 victory.  The Sox brought the sticks hard in the first inning scoring 5 runs and they didnt look back the rest of the way.  In an awesome display of power, Parenti hit a moon-shot onto Field # 5 for his first dinger of the year completing a 2 for 3 night with 4 RBIs.  Not to be out done by his brother, Angry went 4 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored in his first game back from his minor league rehab assignment.  Schaefer brought his hitting shoes going 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs.   And Skillo got into the act with a solo shot in the forth inning.  The Sox left room for improvement on the defensive side of the game, but a solid offensive performance won over.  Paddys will have their hands full in the next couple of games with two solid opponents in Apple Coring and Stable.

Paddys Mercy Rules Joes Place
May 12, 2005
Paddys Place only needed six innings to wipe the field with Joes Place/PBA 21 to 9.  The sox brought their A-game on this night scoring early and often.  Darcy started the game off right with a 2-run bomb in the first inning; and going 3 for 4 with four runs scored in the game.  JC was 4 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Fisher went 3 for 4 and tripled in a run in the second.  Zarwi had a solid night at 3 for 3 and 2 RBI.  And Bobes put in a 3 for 4 night with 2 RBI of his own.  It was a solid offensive performance for the Blacksox.

Blacksox Survive Erisco
May 10, 2005
Paddys Place got their third victory of the season by taking down Erisco 17-13.  The Sox got three runs in the first, two on a JC double and another on an RBI groundout by Parenti.  Bobal brought in C Light with a sac-fly in the second and Kandell singled in Darcy in the third.  Paddys busted out the big wood in the fourth scoring seven runs.    The Sox got another run in the fifth on Bobals second RBI single of the night to bring the score to 13-2, one run away from the mercy rule.  But the Sox would give them all right back when Erisco had their own seven-run inning in the bottom half of the fifth.  And they added four more runs in the sixth to tie the game at 13 all.  The stage was set for a clutch Blacksox performance, and they did not disappoint.  Darcy and Fisher set the table for Kandell three-run blast.  And Rossetti added an insurance run with an RBI single.  The Sox D would hold this lead in the top bottom of the seventh inning and bring home the victory.

Paddys Beats Regional
May 9, 2005
The Blacksox earned their second victory of the season Friday night taking down Regional Bar 9 to 5.  It was the Sox forth straight victory over the always-fun-to-beat Regional Bar counting last seasons final meeting and the Sox sweep in the playoff finals.  Paddys almost had to start the game with 8 players in the field, but in a show of sportsmanship the Regional lead-off batter waited to step into the box until the Sox 9th player arrived.  The Paddys defense again played well, highlighted by a Darcy to JC to Angry relay that cut down a run in the top of the first.  The Sox gave up 2 runs in the first, but answered right back with a Fisher 2-run jack in the bottom half.  Bobes stepped out of his car in the forth inning and knocked a three-run round-tripper.  Dale W turned a sweet DP at second and hit a literal screamer through the outfield for his first bomb of the year.  And Schaef-dawg chipped in with two hits and two runs scored for the Sox.  Another great team performance by the Sox, and it was topped off by an awesome night at Paddys.

Blacksox Win Opener
May 5, 2005
The Paddys Place Blacksox opened the 2005 season in fine fashion last Tuesday dumping Teacher Painting by a score of 9 1.  The defense was the key for the Sox as they allowed only six base runners all game.  But the sticks were not forgotten.  Shortstop JC put in a throwback performance, going 3 for 4 with a 2-run moon shot on to Field # 5.  Third baseman Jon Fisher not only did some yard work of his own with a 2-run jack in the forth, but he also brought the rowdy Paddys Place faithful to their feet with one of his patented head-first slides into second while legging out a double in the sixth.  Dale W. broke the ice with a 2 for 3 night in his Paddys Place debut.  Phat Al chipped in with a single in the second and managed to eat a large hoagie before the game ended.  I think he let JC eat the chips that fell out of the bag though.  The Blacksox put an overall solid team effort in on opening night, proving to team management that they put the work in during the off-season.  Good work, Sox!

Game moved
May 5, 2005
The Blacksox second game of the season was moved from Thursday May 5th to Friday May 6th at 6:45 PM on Field # 4.  The game was changed because Regional Bar would not have been able to field a team.  However, Blacksox management welcomed the move as the Thursday game was set for 9:00 PM which is far too late for some Blacksox team members to be awake never mind playing softball.  The change should also increase attendance at Paddys Place after the game always a bonus.
