A Poem send by sister Yusra Hassan.
MY NAME: YUSRA HASSAN
DATE: 29\8\2K
TITLE OF MY POEM: NATURE

I heard the whoosh of the slowly,
Swirling and rolling waves.
I saw the foaming,
And the white-capped sea.

The air whistled by,
Rustling the autumn leaves.
It carressed my face,
Spreading unconcious smiles.

The trees in the distance,
Couldn't resist as they danced.
And swayed and sang with whispers,
To the utter delight of the gusts.

The drizzle beat down,
Muddy paths here and there.
Refreshing as it was,
No replacements could be made.

The grainy-sand was,
A soft carpet beneath my feet.
Trailing my fingers though it,
I realized its beauty.

Eyes riveted to the shore,
I saw the glittery shell.
Lifting it, I noticed,
Its natural and accurate carvings.

As the sun lowered into the Pacific,
Brushing it with its rays.
I climbed higher and higher,
And onto the cliff.

A breath-taking sight it was,
When looking down.
At the ocean lashing its anger,
On the wet rocky sides.

Ah! the nature!
It couldn't have been better.
Made out of God's Hand,
It truly is glamarous!

TITLE OF THIS POEM: FAITHFULNESS FOR MY COUNTRY

Oh! You who serve it,
Serve well and keep it alive.

Oh! You who love it,
Keep loving and strenghthen it.

Oh! You who support it,
Hold it and let it be strong.

Oh! You who care for it,
Give it tenderness like a mother.

I give my sincerest wishes,
Never forgetting my undying love for it.

The EDITOR:
Anyone knew what exactly happened to the good old days when things were not that rough and tough as it is today? And even so where are those the polite and gentle Muslims that we seen many, many years ago in many parts of our society, where have they all gone!
There should have been a leaping progress in most Muslims' countries, and let's allpray for that achievements, no matter what the color or race or what country we live in. If only Muslims could get together for that one purpose to help, and assist each other the world would be a better place for our children. Let's start praying salatul hajjat and a doa to seek Allah's assistance, especially so at this time when such things just seem to go wrong, and all that is because of our indifferences and ........
*Do recite the Name of Allah, Ya Allah for 300 times day and night.Insha-Allah all that we seek for from Allah of this world and the Hereafter would soon be granted.Ma'asalama
*Have we ever been in a sad position whereby everything just seem to be against us. That even your friends,or family members are not there for the help. And that on every corner and every day there seem to be an increase in those agaist you then those that are with you? It is as if, there are no hope, as if there is none that wish to be with you.Just think! How did the Holy Prophet first felt the same feeling, that same thing we are now, we are encountaring from every corner.
*If you have Islamic articles, do send to me to be added into the Muslims Regional News.Insha-Allahu Ta'ala. And Ma'asalama.Let us pray and doa to seek Allah's help and assistance for our family, for our Muslim brothers and help the unfortunate anywhere in the world.*I have a good idea of setting up the North America Regional News/North America......Anyone there in the States or Canada willing to take this program? Do write for suggestions and feedback.

WEDNESDAY:23.5:Pertaining to the popular belief that tamarind, that good old sour tasted vegetable stuff has all the beneficila remedy for cough, toothaches, cooling the body system, cleaning the bowels and killing the germs.Try it with the lump of sugar, tamarind and hot water. And it really works...and it is cheap.
SUNDAY 8.4:There are so many Muslims Restaurants nowadys mushrooming in the city, in fact every city in S.E Asia that it is becoming difficult to choose which restaurant to have our simple lunch. Incidently the Kebab is becoming more popular with the locals that one thought we actually have tasted the Turkey's own recipe and that you could feeel as if you are in Islatanbul! I hope to have one more tomorrow.
Tuesday17.10:The origin of food we consume could be far away from our region yet there many more born out by our forefathers. For instanceNasi Lemak. Well it could began and invented in Melaka during the 13 Century, that is, it could dated back to the Malaccan Dynasty of Sulatan Mansyur Shah. I think I am correct at that....
*Monday16.10:Have you ever wondered to find out the history of the local dishes we have eaten? If you have interesting news to tell write to me, I would like to hear it.

5.10.2000:The popular dish Satay is I think came from Indonesia probably the Java Island.
1.10.2000The grand and large varieties of food in this region are namely imported dishes namely they originated from far-of countries like India, China, Arabia, and Indonesia. And later came to be adopted by the locals, allover the land. One dish in particular,"Nasi Beryani" is from India, and I think it goes back to the Moghuls, and reaching the shores here in the 15 century when Indian traders and cooks called in at Malacca. If you ever eat out here you will find it to the the finest, tastiest dish. The Malay food like Nasi Lemak, Lontong are among the favorites.Try the Nasi Lemak for yourself.

The Indian Muslims Contributions to Southeast Asia:

The many chapters of the countries in Southeast Asia especially so in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, southern Thailand and some parts in Indonesia have witnessed the various, great contributions by Indian Muslims, and their landmarks for these are to remain today as it was 500 years ago. There are three definite patterns of contribution or the clear remnants that changes the country as a whole.Firstly, on the cultural, custom and social intergrations; secondly the mosques the very backbone of a country and thirdly the most commonly known as the food we eat.
Long before India achieved her independence, no, in fact two centuries before thatIndian Muslims have already established their trading partners into Southeast Asia. Many have made their significant and important contributions and a magnificent understanding was also established. The one like a big welcoming family members of a sort.
And Trade flourished, and what a flourishinmg trade it is!Large business enterprise were established one after another.Even Admiral Cheng Ho, the Viceroy of China must have been shocked to witness the vast trades and the variety of traders in Malacca, of which among them was Indian Muslims.
Mosques built by the early Muslim pioneers from India are numerous to put in numbers...that came to be more than a hundred thousands of mosques all around the region. What a great feat of Contributions! I could not but ask Allah to bless on them the blessing of the Hereafter. (to be continued)

NEWS of the WEEK:

Here is a part of a speech by Malaysian Prime Minister at the International Forum On Islam.
BREAKING THE MUSLIM MINDSET.

What is the state of the Muslim world today? I don't think it would be wrong to state that the Muslim world is at its lowest ebb, and is probably continuing to decline and to fall.
Ever since the Turkish Muslim Empire fell before the onslought of European nations, not only was the Muslim world broken up into small and ineffective nation-states, but it has also never been able to stage a recovery on the world stage.
Individually, the Muslim states have not been able to make any progress or impact. In fact, for the many of the peoples of the Turkish Empire, their cooperation with the Europeans in order to free themselves from Turkish rule only resulted in the change of colonial masters from Turkish to British and French.
It was only after a long and with great difficulty that they manage to extricate themselves from European colonial rule.
Independence has not enabled them to develop and to regain the political cloutof the old Muslim empires. Instead, they have been faced with internal problems which prevent them from making any progress.
Even when they are richly endowed, they have not been able to make any real progress interms of their influence in international affairs. Not a single Muslim country is to be found among the developed nations of the world.
When the Industrial Revolution took place, the Muslim world was still relatively undivided. But Muslims on the whole wre either unaware of the revolution or rejected it.
For a long time, much of the results of the Industrial Revolution whether in terms of material gains or systems were rejected by Muslims as un-Islamic.
Electricity, for example, was not used by Muslims because for some unknown reason, it was considered to be against Islam. Mosques could not be lighted with electricity. It was haram according to to the Muslim learned ones. Only 30 years ago there was at least one Muslim country which insisted on using lamps instead of electricity.
Mechanised vehicles were also considered haram and may not be used to carry coffin of the dead. Paintings of human and animal figures were prohibited, as was the wearing of non-baggy trousers and peak-caps.
The progress in weaponry in the West was not duplicated in the Muslim world..Instead, when finally a change of weapon was allowed, they had to be soueced basically from the enemy.
we may think that it is unrealistic if not silly to label industrial products as haram, but in those days, they fanatically serious in considering them as haram
Not only do we miss the Industrial Revolution, but we also missed subsequent developments ehich we also looked upon as suspicion.
Not very long ago in Malaysia, television sets were thrown into the river because some riligious teachers declared them to be haram. It sounds silly now but it is amazing how many people believed these ignorant teachers.
Today and rightly so, we are even more concerned about what is haram and halal but unfortunately we often go overboard.(to be cont....) ................................................................................ --------------------------------------------------------------

Please beware of the internet danger which is growing day by day. There is lot of fitna & fassad on the net.
Never take any Islamic info. from unknown sources.
Always refer to elders & scholars for clarification & confirmation. Do not believe on internet Islamic knowledge blindly.
There are well organized, very much active Qadyanees (followers of mirza ghulam ahmed the liar), non-believers (mulhid), munkir-e-ahadith, zindeeq (who adds or changes in the deen) & Biddatti firqas who are spreading uncertainty, chaos & doubts among muslims. They are injecting their evil thoughts slowly and sugar-coated so that innocent muslims fall into their trap.
People are talking bad about scholars, denying rules & regulations of Islam & creating rifts among muslims on the basis of language, race & country. Keep your eyes open & ask refuge of Allah for the safeguard.
Donot indulge in arguments with them, do not follow what you never heard of deen or that sounds strange.

Below is an article by invited writer sister Shehya.
-----Forwarded by Sheyha SULONG

A simple story to start the day...but so inspiring.
************************************************************
Power of Words !!

A group of frogs were travelling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the unfortunate frogs they would never get out. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit.

The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and simply gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and suffering and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out.

When he got out, the other frogs asked him, "Why did you continue jumping? Didn't you hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

This story teaches two lessons:
1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them. Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words ... it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another. Be special to others.

Brother Robin's article:
In the Name of Allah, The Compassionate, The Merciful
Al-salaamu alaykum wa rahmat-Allaahi wa barakaatuhu

STRENTHENING MOTHER DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIPS

And Allah has made for you mates of your own nature, and made for you out of them sons and daughters and grandchildren... (Quran 16:72)

Your riches and your children may be but a trial, but in the Presence of Allah is the highest reward. (Quran 64:15)

What does Islam say about the special relationship between mothers and daughters who are Believers? Before Islam, people had some very strange ideas about how to treat their daughters, and unfortunately, some people still hold on to these pre-Islamic customs today. The Catholic Bible explicitly states that
"The birth of a daughter is a loss!" (Ecclesiastics 22:3). In contrast to this shocking statement, boys receive special praise, "A man who educates his son will be the envy of his enemy." (Ecclesiastics 30:3). Also according to the Bible, a daughter is considered a painful burden, a potential source of shame to her father,

"When news is brought to one of them of the birth of a female child, his face darkens and he is filled with inward grief. With shame does he hide himself from his people because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain her on contempt or bury her in the dust? Ah! what an evil they decide on?"(16:59)

This awful practice is also condemned in the Quran in two other places (43:17, 81:8-9). Of course, Rasulullah (SAAWS) was also totally opposed to this practice of burying daughters alive. He and his first wife, Khadijah, had four daughters whom they raised until they were grown women.
Their daughters were named Zaynab, Um Khulthum, Ruqaiyah, and Fatimah. Both Rasuluilah (SAAWS) and his wife, Khadijah RAA loved their daughters dearly and always treated them with respect and tenderness. In fact, Islam considers the birth of a female as a gift and a blessing from Allah as much as the birth of a male. The Quran even mentions the gift of the female birth first,

"To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what he wills. He bestows female children to whomever He wills, and He bestows male children to whomever He wills"(42:49)

DAUGHTERS' DUTIES

*Always remember what your parents, especially your mother, did for you all your life.
* Recognize the wisdom of age and experience, and even when you disagree, be respectful and humble to her.
* You must NOT obey your mother if she tells you to disobey Allah SWT or to break any of his commands.
* Use the art of negotiation - Use honey instead of vinegar. For example: "Mom, I cleaned my room and folded the clothes would you mind taking me to the mail?" Do something to please your mom and then make a polite request..............

MOTHERS TREATMENT OF DAUGHTERS

Assume good intentions of your daughter. Try to excuse temporary thoughtlessness. Hadith advise us to make 70 excuses for the harm others do to us, and then blame ourselves for perhaps misunderstanding..
* Learn how to discuss with her so that her challenges will not upset you. Learn to listen with your heart and stop interrupting her with khutbahs! She must feel free to talk to you at anytime about whatever may be troubling her. If you cannot be there for her, she will have to confide in negative peers who will mislead her.

Search for solutions. Look for ways to make a compromise instead of insisting that she is completely wrong. For example, if she wants to go swimming at the beach, don't just tell her "No, that's haraam!"

Remember to cherish her. She is going to get married and move away before you know it. Do you really want to spend these few years you have together in your home arguing and embroiled in tension? If you expect her to someday want to bring your grandchildren to visit you, then you need to let her see how loving you really are, not how harsh. You are her ally more than her father because you are her only parent who can share with her an understanding of what it is to be a woman -- from training bras to cramps, to butterflies in her stomach on her wedding day. Only you will fully understand and offer her a mothers unconditional love.

It is narrated by the Prophet's wife, 'A'isha (RAA), that a woman entered her house with two of her daughters. She asked for charity but 'A'isha could not find anything but a date, which she gave to her. The woman divided it between her two daughters and did not eat any herself. Then she got up and left. When the Prophet (SAAWS) came to the house, 'A'isha told him about what had happened and he declared that when the woman will be brought to account (on the Day of Judgment) about her two daughters they will act as a screen for her from the fires of Hell.

THINGS YOU MUST NEVER SAY TO YOUR DAUGHTER
*"If you do that again, I'm going to kill you!" "I'm going to break your neck!" Don't threaten physical harm. Threats only cause fear if you carry them out, and reduce your credibility if you do not. "You are perfect!" "That's the most beautiful artwork I've ever seen!

You are the most beautiful girl in the world!" Praise breed arrogance and boastfulness. Instead, recognize her accomplishments but give credit to Allah who created her and gave her talents and abilities, by saying "Masha'Allah", and "Alhamdulillah."

* MOST IMPORTANT: Avoid physical punishment of your children. whatever problems may arise with children, under no circumstances should Believers ever do or say anything that Will jeopardize their Deen and Iman because, ultimately, all mothers must answer to Allah (SWT) for the treatment accorded to the children whom He has entrusted to them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------~-> It is difficult to distinguish this quality from meekness, wherein one might, out of resignation and weakness of submission, especially under circumstances when he is a weak and helpless person, subjected to persecution and cruelty later finds himself powerful enough to retaliate and can take revenge, forgoes his/her right and forgives the enemies.
In order to understand this heroic phenomenon, we should look into the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as divided into two distinct periods. The one that relates to his life spent in Makkah and the other during which he took refuge in Madinah.
In the former period of his life he was weak and helpless. Yet impelled by the demands of his prophetic mission, he propagated Islam against very severe and hostile treatment meted to him. He was subjected to all sorts of persecution.
Emboldened by his helpless contentions his enemies went to the extent of strewing thorns in his way, threw dirty and filthy things, pelted him with stones and tried to strangle him to death. They ostracised and confined him with his kith and kin for three long years in a ravine into which they allowed no supplies of the means of subsistence. Such was the sadistic level to which they had descended themselves that he had to leave Makkah and migrated to Madinah.
In Madinah matters took a different shape of things. The holy Prophet was received by Madinians with open heart and arms which has resulted in adding a good number of converts into the fold of Islam. The success of his mission of Islamisation of the society ultimately resulted into the triumphant entry of the holy Prophet into Makkah and gave him absolute authority and complete control over the lives of the people of Makkah, who had treated him ruthlessly before migration. The atrocities and inhuman behaviour with which the holy Prophet was subjected to, sent a chill down the spines of his tormentors in Makkah, but they were stunned when the holy Prophet forgave his arch-rival and the chief architect of his miseries, Abu Sufyan. Not only that, the holy Prophet proclaimed that whoever entered Abu Sufyan's house for refuge was also safe.

Hindha, Abu Sufyan's wife who had bitter hatred for the holy Prophet went to such extreme end of showing her hatred towards Muslims that in the battle of Ohed, she tore out the liver from the dead body of the holy Prophet's beloved uncle Hamzah and chewed it publicly. When the holy Prophet saw the mutilated and disfigured condition of his uncle and confidant's dead body, tears trickled down from his eyes.
Meanwhile, Hindah was distraught at the fall of Makkah. She went into hiding and veiled herself completely before surrendering to the holy Prophet and professing acceptance of Islam. Her identity was, however, discovered. Yet the holy Prophet of Islam did not hesitate in forgiving her. The effect ofhis generosity was so immense that Hindah exclaimed: "O Muhammad! Hitherto your tent was the most hateful to me, but it is dearest to me today."
The days, following the fall of Makkah to Muslims fold, were very critical. There was a general atmosphere of dismay and fear among the people of Makkah owing to the guilt in their conscience. On the one hand was their seemingly unyielding pride and later the critical situation arising from their miserable plight due to the glorious victory of Muslims.
The holy Prophet stood like a pillar of peace for them. Unlike the traditional conquerors who chose to let loose a reign of terror against their conquered foes, expose them to shame, dishonour and every conceivable form of cruelty and put them through physical torture without any regard to age and sex, the holy Prophet ordered to his disciplined and loyal followers in arms that none should be dishonoured, no property should be touched and no blood should be shed. Then came to him in succession the notables and former nobles of Makkah, who distinguished themselves by the enormity of their crimes and all of them, in return, were pleasantly surprised to get kindness - clemency and mercy at the hands of the distinguished 'victor', the holy Prophet.
All of them were inveterate enemies of the holy Prophet whose aim was to nip Islam in the bud, who were chiefly responsible for all the aggressions against Muslims, and who now stood helpless, buried under the guilt of their own conscience, with their heads bowed in shame. The holy Prophet graciously pardoned all of them.

It would seem that the norms of the 'Geneva Convention' relating to wartime conduct of soldiers were conceived by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) 1,400 years ago. The subsequent history of Islam, even after the death of the holy Prophet, is the witness that his followers had been all along considerate and merciful towards their enemies.
Vengeance leads to revenge and unending feud and bitterness, which in turn hamper the development of civil society, while forgetting and forgiving follies, highhandedness and injustices of opponents eliminate enmities and grudges, producing the tranquillity and harmony so essential for peace and prosperity. Hatred begets hatred while love creates and enhances love at the universal level. Therefore, as individuals we must learn the virtue of forgiveness at a personal level which automatically ascends to the social and national levels. For, great are the virtues of forgiveness. - KT (7/9/2001).

Western Law:the product of Islamic court of Law.
Assalamu alaikum,
If I were to add in to my own personal research it would take almost a year to have this article completed. What I have gathered from almost all of my research so far, gathered knowledge from Law books, magazines etc...I am presenting here a rather short article that I hope everyone would view its significance.

That the Modern Law, and especially the West in my own research are actually the by-products of Islamic portion of Law(civil law, criminal law etc.)This I gathered in the long History of the West, namely to the years way back when Europe was at that period of the Dark Age. The Universities in Islamic-Spain at that time were frequented and pupils from all over Europe came to study everything about Islam, from its Scientifics to Shariah law.

It was at this period that the introduction of law was introduced to Great Britain and the rest of Europe, as it was necessary for the court of Law to be established by their Kings; part of the necessity was to have a Law that resemble the Islamic court of Law.As necessity is the mother of invention.

What we see today in the West is actually the very ingredients of the basic concept that they are using. That is the basic Law of the West is the by-products of the portion if not half of it of the Islamic court of Law. More studies are needed to further elaborate this. but as of at this time I do not have the fields nor the period to do more research, I do hope someone else, namely from the West especially Muslims in Great Britain would.

And one more thing is that Napolean did brought back to France and introduced the portion of Law from his journey to Egypt, the root of Islamic Jurisdiction. Some of which are functioning till this very day.And that too goes to the Law in the West that Islamic Spain Islam has introduce to the West, being copied, and manifested into the very basic function of the Western law and Democracy. And so the contribution of Islamic Culture to the modern world is rather very unique....small but very universal.Through it came the various aspects of man's prosperity, and the peace and harmony that carried the wealth of the world to this very day.More research are needed as at this time. I hope someone would do that. This could be a one interesting study, debate by everyone, including Muslim Religious Scolars, Imams and I hope so.

Western Law:the products of Islamic Court of Law. (part 2)

What matters most was the implementation of its adaptation --the viable influences of the Islamic court and from a brief description I gathered from the book "The English Legal System" by Gary Slapper and David Kelly on account of the earliest law established as (but this is refutable later on in my examples):
"...civil law refers to those other jurisdiction which have adopted the European continental system of law derived essentially from ancient Roman Law, but very much the Germanic tradition".

My explaination to this contraversial arguament is that ny the simple fact that the period, age and distance of that ancient Rome was more than a thousand years, but it is accounatably near with that of Islamic Spain in its close-proximity.
Even if the contravery was correct, that the early civil law established was of ancient Roamn law, the adaptation of later period of the law must have been greatly influnces by structure, study of the Islamic court of Law.

"Prior to the Norman conquets of England in 1066, there was no united national legal system..."
And also "Norman were French in language, viewpoint and culture. Their system of Law was bound on the ancient Roman Civil Law. Norman retained the English Common Law of unwritten custom, except that church courts were introduced with authority..."
"...a national system of law from Anglo-Saxon, Norman....by the 12th. century there were judges..."

And here is the point I would like to raise: that the church would not accept that which is in part attached to anything of ancient Rome as they were polytheistic and a well known adversery to the early Christians....

"Common law...represents the imposition of such a unitary system under the auspices and control of a centralised power in the form of a sovereign". This comes under the review of the establishment of King's Court in England much like the Islamic Spain having the King's court for every account etc.

In other words, judges preside over trials to settle controversies that one brought before them: a judge renders judgement, juries....verdict.

It all add up to my view as to the topic:
(1)Implementation of new additional law has to be added.
(2)Complex in its law structure, as population increases and so were crimes. And all other necessities.
(3)Branches of Law to suit the purpose of the period, that if the close proximity of Islamic culture and the Islamic Spain provides for them easy access and study.

My studies have shown that with each period from Medieval Time that the Legal System practised since then would be much more in favor and greatly influenced by the Islamic court of law.

I have here part of the great, past writers around the world regarding the topic, hoping we could recollect and to proof on my arguments.I will write more details later on to continue on this debate. And so Muslim Spain appears and to bloom fo centuries in flowery detachments here and there, then disappeared forever...leaving behind a legacy, a legitimate one.

H.G. Wells wrote:
"The Islamic teachings have left great traditions for equitable and gentle dealings and behavior, and inspire people with nobility and tolerance. These are human teachings of the highest order and at the same time practicable. These teachings brought into existence a society in which hard-heartedness and collective oppression and injustice were the least as compared with all other societies preceding it....Islam is replete with gentleness, courtesy, and fraternity."

Phillip Hitti in 'Short History of the Arabs.'
"During all the first part of the Middle Ages, no other people made as important a contribution to human progress as did the Arabs, if we take this term to mean all those whose mother-tongue was Arabic, and not merely those living in the Arabian peninsula. For centuries, Arabic was the language of learning, culture and intellectual progress for the whole of the civilized world with the exception of the Far East. From the IXth to the XIIth century there were more philosophical, medical, historical, religiuos, astronomical and geographical works written in Arabic than in any other human tongue."

Thomas Arnold in 'The Call to Islam.'
"We have never heard about any attempt to compel Non-Muslim parties to adopt Islam or about any organized persecution aiming at exterminating Christianity. If the Caliphs had chosen one of these plans, they would have wiped out Christianity as easily as what happened to Islam during the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella in Spain; by the same method which Louis XIV followed to make Protestantism a creed whose followers were to be sentenced to death; or with the same ease of keeping the Jews away from Britain for a period of three hundred fifty years."

Sir John Bagot Glubb wrote:
Khalif (Caliph) Al-Ma'mun's period of rule (813 - 833 C.E.) may be considered the 'golden age' of science and learning. He had always been devoted to books and to learned pursuits. By Mamun's time medical schools were extremely active in Baghdad. The first free public hospital was opened in Baghdad during the Caliphate of Haroon-ar-Rashid. As the system developed, physicians and surgeons were appointed who gave lectures to medical students and issued diplomas to those who were considered qualified to practice. The first hospital in Egypt was opened in 872 AD and thereafter public hospitals sprang up all over the empire from Spain and the Maghrib to Persia.

Here is a short article by: Dr. A. Zahoor.
Ibn Rushd wrote many books on the question of theology, where he tried to use his knowledge of philosophy and logic. It is not surprising then that his works greatly influenced European religious scholarship, though Averroes is innocent of many views of Western so-called Averroism. Professor Bammate in his booklet "Muslim Contribution to Civilization" quotes Renan: St. Thomas Aquinas was "the first disciple of the Grand Commentator (i.e., Averroes). Albert Alagnus owes everything to Avicenna, St. Thomas owes practically everything to Averroes." Professor Bammate continues: "The Reverend Father Asin Palacios, who has carried out intensive studies of the theological Averroism of St. Thomas and, in no way classifies Averroes with Latin Averroists, takes several texts of the Cordovan philosopher and compares them with the Angelic Doctor of (St. Thomas). The similarity in their thought is confirmed by the use of expressions similar to that of Ibn Rushd. It leaves no room for any doubt about the decisive influence that the Muslim Philosopher (Averroes) had on the greatest of all Catholic theologians.

His book on jurisprudence 'Bidayat al-Mujtahid wa-Nihayat-al-Muqtasid' has been held by Ibn Jafar Zahabi as possibly the best book on the Maliki School of Fiqh. Ibn Rushd's writings were translated into various languages, including Latin, English, German and Hebrew. Most of his commentaries on philosophy are preserved in the Hebrew translations, or in Latin translations from the Hebrew, and a few in the original Arabic. His commentary on zoology is entirely lost. Ibn Rushd also wrote commentaries on Plato's Republic, Galen's treatise on fevers, al-Farabi's logic, and many others. Eighty-seven of his books are still extant.

Ibn Rushd has been held as one of the greatest thinkers and scientists of the twelfth century. According to Philip Hitti, Ibn Rushd influenced Western thought from the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries. His commentaries were used as standard texts in preference to the treatises of Aristotle in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. His books were included in the syllabi of Paris and other Western universities till the advent of modern experimental sciences. Ibn Rusd was studied in the University of Mexico until 1831.

Stanley Lane-Poole in The Moors in Spain:
Introduction.
"For nearly eight centuries, under the Mohamedan rule, Spain set all Europe a shining example of a civilized and enlightened state. Her fertile provinces rendered doubly prolific, by the industrious engineering skill of the conquerors bore fruit a hundredfold, cities innumerable sprang up in the rich valleys in the Guadalquivir and the Guadiana whose names, and names only commemorate the vanished glories of their past. "...To Cordoba belong all the beauty and ornaments that delight the eye or dazzle the sight. Her long line of Sultans form her crown of glory; her necklace is strung with the pearls which her poets have gathered from the ocean of language; her dress is of the banners of learning, well-knit together by her men of science; and the masters of every art and industry are the hem of her garments.

"Art, literature and science prospered as they then prospered nowhere else in Europe...

"Mathematics, astronomy, botany, history, philosophy and jurisprudence were to be mastered in Spain, and Spain alone. Whatever makes a kingdom great and prosperous, whatever tends to refinement and civilization, was found in Muslim Spain...

Homeld on Science
"It was the Arabs who for the first time invented the method of chemical preparation of medicines, and it was from this source that sound advice and the procedure of experiments came to us, which were taken up by the School of Saliram and from there after a long time spread to southern Europe. The medicine and the natural elements on which medication entirely depends became the cause of study of plants' Chemistry. In this way both these studies went on simultaneously in two different ways and thus the door on a new era of the study of this science was opened by the Arabs. Suffice it for the proof of the vast Arab knowledge of the plant kingdom that they made addition of two thousand herbs to those of Zulefuredas. There were many herbs in their pharmacy that the Greeks had not even dreamt of."

Sideo
"During the middle ages, the Arabs alone were the standard-bearers of a civilisation." "When the Arabs gained expertise in Astronomy, they paid special attention to Mathematical sciences and gained a high degree of excellence and they were really our teachers in this field....When we take stock of all that got transferred from Arabic to Latin, we find that a great doorway was made in the name of Gerbert Sylvester II, through which during the period between 970-980 AD, all those sciences he had acquired in Andalusia had entered Europe."

..."Our searching gaze rests on the Malikite Law, since we have had contacts with Africa, and France had ordered its competent learned men to translate into French the short compendium on Fiqh (jurisprudence) compiled by Ishaq bin Yaqub (d. 1242 AD, his book titled "Kitab-e-Khalil")

..."For full six hundred years his (Ibn Sina, Avicenna) works held sway over the educational institutions of Europe. His book Al-Qanun (Canon) was translated in five volumes and had repeated reprints, since the instruction in the universities of France and Italy totally depended on it."

WEDNESDAY.(9.4)
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL

Asalamu'alaikum brothers and sisters.... Please take a minute to read about the sad situation of the Afghans that live in the over-crowded camps of Pakistan. I have summarized it for you guys, cuz I know most of you wouldn't read huge paragraphs. I hope this knocks some sense into our dead brains....

Father and son fight over food, over a piece of bread like dogs. One father whose 20 year old son stole his bread from under his pillow while he slept, went to deep depression, asking over and over again how his son could do such a thing. The next day the father died because of starvation and depression. "I mean the people are going backward and backward. In some villages, you come across children -- I'm sorry to use this word, they're acting like animals. They want food. That's it. That's all their life is. The search for food."

"I feel cold, all the time," says the woman in the next tent, whose name is Gul Maida, who came here four months ago, and gave birth to twins in the tent three months ago, and is feeding them spoonfuls of dirty water because she is too weak to produce milk. One is wrapped in a green cloth, the other in brown. "I haven't named them yet," she says.
Alhamdulilah most of us never have to worry about where we will get our next meal or how we will keep our children warm for another night....... Many of our worries are not remotely comparable to the millions of other muslims across the globe....
But how many of us thank Allah for providing comfort in our lives while thousands of others suffer and perish each and every hour...each and every day....... ??
Too many of us take the mercy and gifts of Allah (SWT) for granted.... Think about it.....
Anyone of us could have been a sufferer in those death camps... Anyone of us could be one of those fathers struggling to feed his family... Or a mother in pain everytime she looks at her dying child.... Most of us are so absorbed in the temporary pleasures of this duniyah that we often forget to stop and think.....
Thank Allah for choosing us to bless with easy, comfortable lives...
Choosing ME and YOU out of millions and millions of other people...
So how do we repay Allah?......

"...and they rejoice in this world's life; and this world is nothing compared with the Hereafter but a temporary enjoyment." Holy Quran 13:26

Beware
Brothers & Sisters in Islam
Assalaam o alaycum
