Thank you for your interest in our ministry. We are missionaries with World Team and are part of the leadership training team in southern Haiti. We designed this page in 2006 to help potential supporters understand our role and its importance in Haiti. The content is still relevant now that we are in Haiti full-time. |

Why Haiti? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, has been plagued with political unrest, economic collapse, and social instability. Through five changes in government in the past 10 years, the one oasis of stability and moral clarity in Haiti has been the evangelical church. The gospel of Christ is transforming lives and the truth of God is combating social and spiritual poverty. In the midst of adversity, the church is undergoing tremendous growth, but its strength depends upon the ministry vision, doctrinal purity and moral integrity of its leadership. Those qualities are what we have been called to Haiti to help strengthen. |

Why The Bible Institute? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
The Bible Institute of Light (IBL) in Les Cayes has been a bulwark for biblical truth, a center for ministry training, and a catalyst for church planting in the southern peninsula of Haiti for over 70 years. While some churches have strayed from biblical doctrine and practice or stagnated in their mission, the churches served by the IBL have shown amazing vigor and remained steadfast in proclaiming the gospel of Christ and ministering to the needs of their communities in Jesus� name. World Team sees the IBL as a key element in nurturing the ongoing church planting movement in Haiti. |

Why World Team? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
World Team has been a partner with the Evangelical Baptist Mission of Southern Haiti (MEBSH) since 1936. MEBSH is a Haitian church association that has partnered with World Team in biblical education, medical ministry, Christian radio, and other developmental and evangelistic ministries. All of these ministries are now under Haitian leadership. Now, World Team and MEBSH are developing a new partnership aimed at working together to support the church multiplication movement and to harness the missionary potential of the Haitian church. |

Why the Christensens? |
|
|
|
|
|
Haiti already has a special place in our family because Heather grew up there as a missionary kid for eight years and returned as an adult to teach in a missionary kid�s school for four years. Heather left Haiti in 1998, the year we were married, and now we are returning, together with our four children! Heather is looking forward to having an informal ministry to the wives of the students, sharing her unique perspective as a missionary, missionary kid, pastor�s kid, and pastor�s wife. |

|
Sean has 13 years of pastoral experience and a heart for helping others in full-time ministry. Many pastors in Haiti need personal coaching and mentoring in the areas of personal ethics, family life and discipleship in order to establish and nurture healthy churches that continue to reproduce. This is at the heart of why we sense God leading us to Haiti.
The IBL is also seeking accreditation by the Haitian government and Sean�s Masters of Divinity degree from Columbia Biblical Seminary will help in this process. Some areas of practical theology need a stronger emphasis at the IBL and the leadership believes Sean�s mix of formal education, pastoral ministry and missions experience will be an asset to the team. |

Why Now? |
|
|
|
|
|
The Bible Institute of Light serves 450+ MEBSH churches, 180 of which were started within the past 5 years. The church is growing rapidly and MEBSH leaders have asked World Team to help provide training and mentoring for the new pastors. The IBL has a very ambitious vision to: |
|
|
|
|
|
|
� establish satellite centers in other parts of Haiti, especially in rural areas |
|
|
|
� receive students from non-MEBSH churches, who also need trained leadership |
|
|
|
� offer classes for pastor�s wives so they can be effective partners with their husbands in ministry. |
|
|
|
This is a vision with which we are eager to assist. We believe that the church�s zeal for Christ and their innovative resolve to move forward against many obstacles brings the strong potential for Haiti to be a missionary sending region for the 21st century. By God�s grace the church in Haiti will export strong and healthy disciples who know God and His Word and who carry on Christ�s mission to the ends of the earth. |
