There are many kinds of love. However, the difference begins between Romantic love and Conjugal love. In romantic love, the lovers are carried by their admiration, adoration, affection, and pathos for each other. In these lovers, love invokes the fire in the heart. Their life is beautiful, their love is an art, and their souls carry the illusion of an eternal flame. But, the flame is not everlasting. It grows into a volcano, and sets the heart on fire, and burns it. This is when people make the shift from romantic love to conjugal love.
In conjugal love, the emotions are tied to reason. The lovers begin to transcend their love into an eternity by denying its evanescence. Love no longer exists by the moment; it extends and grows over time; it adopts the normal state of mind of the rational, reasoning human being. Love dies; something else grows.
What then is true love?
True love is the affirmation of the pain of life. True love is the realization that it is not only happiness that brings bliss, it is also suffering. It is the experience that matters, not the consequence.
