Started in 1997 by a group of BAR's (Born Again Rocketeers), SeaNAR has been growing this past year and now sponsors a monthly launch and held its first sanctioned meet on October 10th. Our goal is to promote the sport of model rocketry; to provide a forum where like-minded people can get together for fun and the free exchange of ideas, techniques and skills. We also support local educational programs, speaking to school classes and giving rocketry demonstrations. We believe it is important to introduce young people to this exciting sport, while teaching them important safety precautions, so they can have fun safely, by stressing the NAR Safety Code. |

Currently, SeaNAR invites all rocketeers to join us for an informal launch on the fourth Saturday of each month at 60-Acres park in Redmond, WA. We're there from 10am to 2pm, on the southeast lot, across the street from the soccer fields. We share the area with radio controlled gliders. The field is legal for motors up to D-power. So bring your rockets and launch equipment, if you have any. If you don't have launch equipment, there are usually enough pads to share.
We generally hold our section meetings directly after the launch, either at the field or a nearby facility. Anyone may sit in, and we always welcome potential new members.
Some other local launches are: Monroe, WA (first Sunday of each month), and Kent Space Center (second Saturday).
We are trying to get a launch site approved in Seattle. Michael Pearson is working with the Fire Marshal's office and the Parks department, and hopefully we will see some results soon. If you are interested in helping out, contact Mike.
On the technical side, we are planning to build theodolites, to support altitude tracking of sport launches, contests and record attempts.
This past April, five of our members received Level 1 Certification on the same day. We each built the same rocket, Binder Thugs, and flew them on H-128s. This was alot of fun, and we all helped and encouraged each other, sharing techniques and ideas. This is something a few of us may not have accomplished without the support (and prodding) of the group. It is our intent to continue this kind of mentoring or bootstrap teaching to help all our members achieve the goals they set.
We welcome new members, of all ages, experience and inclinations. Get our application (as PDF), send it in, and you will not only be joining the coolest rocket club in Seattle, but you will also receive our quarterly newsletter, filled with news, technical articles and (hopefully) pictures of rockets. Or just bring it by one of the many area launches - we're usually well represented - and give it to one of our members.
