I'm writing this to hopefully provide a little bit of background for those of you visiting my site and hopefully enjoying my hobby. I first started writing about 1 year and 4 months ago, when the first couple of lines from 'The Autumn Breeze' popped into my head, and I just wrote. Since then i've had an insatiable appetite for writing, and it's ended up at over 140 songs, split into 8 albums and plenty of other songs not arranged into a record. I also write poems (which are on this site) and i'm about 20,000 words into a novel, which i've not published anywhere yet.

I write songs in the same way most of the time - I sit in front of the PC and type what comes to me. Normally the original root of a song will just pop into my head from nowhere; i'll think about it all day, and write when I get home. Then i'll upload it for all to see.

I try to write about a wide range of different subjects, and I don't like to cover the same thing twice in similar grounds. So, say, I write two different songs dealing with friendship, i'll look to cover that subject from a number of different perspectives, happy and less so. I like to keep my material fresh; I don't really like to back track over the same sort of thing.

My songs are inspired by several different sources. Anyone who knows me will know my love of Everclear, and, of course, they are my main inspiration. But I draw ideas from plenty of other sources - my friends, me, things i've read or seen, other bands, like the Foo Fighters or Red Hot Chilli Peppers, or Pete Yorn, or REM or Maroon 5 or anything else i've heard anywhere.

I seem to have run out of things to say, ah well, I hope this has given you an insight into why I do this, and how. Thanks for reading.

Michael
