'Anathema' is a word I saw in a school textbook that means 'intense loathing or dislike', so I decided to write a song about mutual dislike between two very different people. It's not really meant to be serious, or about anyone I know. And if it was, I wouldn't name them due to the aggressive nature of the song.
Anathema
(bass)
(drums kick in)
You're my anathema
And I don't like that
You never know
I might have to attack
(bass filler)
Stop doing this to me
to me
to me
to me
to me...
la lala lala...
You are my anathema
(filler)
(kick in)
(chorus)
You are my anathema
Hurt builds up inside
Every time I see you
I don't know
What i'll do
(bass solo)
I am your anathema
But I don't care
One little bit
If you feel that way
That way
That way
That way...
Then let me take a hit
I am your anathema
I am a cartharsis to you
Like you are to me...
(guitar solo)
(build up)
Anathema
Anathema
Anathema
Anathema
(filler)
(chorus)
(bass solo)
I guess i'm supposed to
feel sorry for you
And all the things people do
to you
But i'm your anathema
And I don't feel
any love for you
(long bass/guitar solo)
You won't listen
No, not to a word I say
or sing
But it doesn't matter
today
Because anathema has rewards it brings...
(filler)
(chorus)
(bass solo)
I like the way I act around
you
I'm an anathema
It's just something I do
Yes, run home now
Go and cry
Wonder why
ask how
But remember
I'm an anathema
Get used to that
It is a fact
(long, loud, bass + guitar solo)
(chorus)
(guitars die)
(end)
