Tribute to Admiral Irve Chuck LeMoyne

His Story


Chuck LeMoyne graduated from training class 28, and went on to become the first SEAL to achieve two-star rank of Admiral. LeMoyne's distinguished Naval career had many highlights, and he earned numerous commendations. He was among the military leaders who called for integrating all the services' special operations forces to improve communication and coordination during special missions.

When LeMoyne retired in the fall of 1996, he returned with his family to Coronado. Admiral LeMoyne died Jan. 4, 1997 at the San Diego Hospice after a six-year battle with cancer.

He will be remembered most for establishing and commanding the Naval Special Warfare Command in 1987. Later becoming deputy commander of U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida.
