A very tasty but very bony fish. The mouth is larger than Hilsa macrura and the maxilla reachs to vertical from eye centre or beyond. Ascends rivers to breed that made this species very ulnerable to gill netters operating in the rivers where the return to spawn. Highly cought becau se the salted roe of this fish is an expensive delacacy particularly in Sarawak. Presently the existence of this species is highly threatened. Sold fresh.
