| Family: Dasyatidae Scientific name: Dasyatis zugei (Muller & Henle) Local name: Pari nyiru Distribution: Coastal waters to about 40m depth Size commonly caught: Disc size up to 28cm long and 29cm wide Notes: Disc slightly broader than long. Has a large spine at base of tail covered by skin with poisonous glands. Tail spine may inflict a serious wound. Inhabits sea bottom of shallow waters and feeds mainly on benthic organisms. |
