June 1 - 13
June 1  Awoke with lots of aches and pains from yesterdays sailing.  James decided it would be  a good day for sailing.  It turned out not to be.  We turned around at sea and came back into the harbor before the crew jumped ship!!!. Not a good day to be on the ocean.  Where is the "relax" in cruising.
June 2 Motored along the I.C.W. to the delight and relief of the crew.  Only James drove off the channel due to inattentiveness and we were stuck in the mud.  A trawler came through and waked us out. Anchored in the Wahoo River overnight  Met a boat called Kona Kia with three children on board.   Of course we jumped at the chance to get the children together.  The family was heading south, they had split the year into thirds.  One third was renting a house on the side of Mount Kenya in Kenya.  Another third was driving around Europe.  While another third of the year involved sailing. Nice concept
June 3  Saw a majestic looking bald eagle on the banks of the Wahoo. Motored to Herb River G.A.  The motor stalled right before a swing bridge with the current pulling us towards it, just as the bridge tender changed his mind and decided not to open but to wait for a trawler to catch up.. Stress.
June 4 Motored to Beaufort, South Carolina.  The incorrect raw water pump seems to be causeing  more and more additional problems.  We are going to wait in Beaufort for the correct parts to come in.
June 5 The fridge is still broken and the milk is bad due to the lack of block ice.  Butter has the consistancy of water. Soon mold will start forming on the jam.  My body is craving a good salad and cold drink of milk..
June 6 James replaced the broken bidge pump and two lines to the jib, everything seems to be wearing out this week..  Beaufort is a small historic town lined with old homes and antique shops.  We spent happy hour with George and Don other sailors in the anchorage.
June 7 We are still waiting for engine parts to come in.  Invited a nice sailing couple on board called Walter and Erin for Sangria.  It is nice to talk to such diverse and interesting people out on the water.
June 8 James was able to get a ride with George to a wholesale diesel shop to fill our tanks.  Heather went dress shopping.  After trying on a dress Evan exclaimed, "That makes you look fat."  Note to self... to teach Evan proper verbal replies when a female asks the questrion," How does this look."
June 9 James has fixed the raw water pump, so the engine runs again.  I know why schools often have a lot of field trips at the end of the school year.  As a home teacher I am begining to feel burnt out and need a vacation from teaching. Evan and Pierce took their Bosun Mate tests and passed.  They had to tie a bowline knot, start, run, anchor and dock the dinghy, also use proper radio protocol on the VHF radio.  The boys received tatoos, a certificate and a comic book.
June 10 Sailed up the ICW through some very narrow and shallow rivers. Often the depth allarm registered 6ft of water when we have a 5ft8" draft.  Never went aground though.  We anchored in the Stono River not far from Charlston.  On the VHF we heard of a fire aboard one boat and of an oil spill in Savanna.  The Coast Guard does a lot of good work for us sailors.
June 11 We met up with the crew of  Santoshi - Walter and Erin. Thankfully they stopped by as we were dealing with a 28ft sailboat that broke free from it's mooring and crashed into us.  The mooring line became entangled around our anchor line  Nobody knew who the owner of the boat was. The boat looked deserted for months.  After moving the sailboat away from us and anchoring it Erin gave me a ride to the supermarket and saved me a very long walk.
June 12  After a full day of school we all went swimming.  The weather is very hot here, we need to get going north.  Met with a family about to set sail for a year.  We passed on lots of anchoring information. A tropical storm is coming our way, we have decided to seek shelter.
June 13 It has now been a month without a fridge.. my frustration with living aboard is increasing. We moved to a sheltered oxbow lake withhigh banks. The rain poured and the wind howled while I cooked up a storm in the galley.  I am glad we moved location.  Downtown Charleston flooded while a waterspout flew across the anchorage we normally anchor in.  We watched a movie with the crew of Santoshi.  .
