| July 1st The wind is now from the south so we set out and sailed to New Point Comfort. Ashore we found a small salt water pond just back from the beach. Evan had the foresight to bring along the fishing net. In the pond we gathered fourteen large Maryland Blue crabs. Steamed crabs for dinner. July 2nd Sailed only 20miles in eight hours.. Anchored outside of Deltaville, VA. We decided to go for a swim on a sandbar where many of the locals were swimming. Evan jumped in and swum over a jellyfish with long tenticles. We rushed Evan back to the boat and sprayed him with vinegar for over an hour. Evan was stung from his neck to his knees very badly. July 3rd Sailed to Reedville. A stinky town with an OMega 3 factory - they boil the fish to extract the oil. July 4th Today is an American holiday culminating in a parade and firework show. Unfortunatly the firework display in Reedville occured last Saturday. The children have popits and sparklers while James lit some thirty year old flares off. Just as the sun was setting a thunderstorm approached. The lightening was impressive especially when combined with the occasional firework. Yet again our cell phone has no connection bars so we are unable to call family and friends on this holiday. July 5th The morning was cool, but once the sun bacame high in the sky the temperature reached the upper 90's again. We are still anchored in Reedville. July 6th James has arranged for a refridgerator technition to look at the fridge. All of the freon seems to have leaked out of the system. Many dollars later the fridge gets cold to the touch but does not freeze or keep ice. So much for the fixed fridge. A new fridge for the boat will cost $2000. July 7th Today we traveled south..yes, I know we were trying to go north. We headed to Deltaville where there is a regatta to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. James found a boat to crew on. We attended a silent auction to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. We won and bought a cruising Guide for the Chesapeake Bay. July 8th Today James raced in the regatta. The boat he was racing on came in first for both of the races. Heather and the boys walked to the grocery store. On the way to the store , a Mr. Walker offered a ride. Coincidentaly the same Mr. Walker who donated the book Heather bid on at the auction, and the same Mr. Walker who lives infront of where Seaesta is anchored. The rest of the day the children played catching crabs in the creek with other children at the Walker residence. All of the people we have met in Deltaville have been very gracious and hospitable. In the evening we attended a Regatta dinner with testimonials of blood cancer patients. July 9th Today we are anchored in Deltaville. James raced again in the regatta. The 10R sailing team that James was in won first place. The boat was hull number 6 , top of the line, new racing sailing boat July 10th Today we decided to go swimming at a pool in town. We stopped at a local library where the children were immediately invited to childrens hour, Pierce excitedly attended. James wanted to correen the boat, but after much discussion, he found a diver who came within the hour to change the zincs on the hull. . July 11 Sailed from Deltaville, VA to the Solomons, MD. The wind was fair and the seas following. July12 HOT and Humid!! Chores of laundry and groceries can take all day without a car to get around. We visited a boat called "Windmills". A boat we sailed past many times from the Abacos and up the east coast. A thunderstorm rolled by in the evening. Strong winds and lightening shook things up a little. July 13 Still anchored in the Solomons, MD. July 14 The weather is HOT!!. Now I know why people here stay at a marina in the hottest months just to get some relief from the heat. Still in Solomons. |
