| April 15 Motored over to Little Bell Island - Cambridge. Heather's sunburn is very painful so she stayed inside all day out of the sun. To wear clothes is too painful. April 16 Today is Easter! We were assigned a mooring at Wardwick Wells Park, so we motored in calm seas over to the southern mooring field. Brunch occured upon Quixotic while Easter dinner took place on Seaesta. We had no candy or Easter eggs on board so Heather made homemade hand dipped chocolates. April 17 Easter is a four day holiday here in the Bahamas as it is in most British and ex-British colonies. We walked to a pirate lair where Edward Teach and Ann Bonney supposedly hung out waiting for the next boat to pillage. April 18 James volunteered to work at the park for a free night on the mooring. April 19 Again James volunteered. In the afternoon we drift snorkle over a few areas of reefs. The variety and abundance of coral and fish species was amazing. Heather borrowed Dan's wetsuit from s/v Quixotic.."I can actually float in it..For the first time I have been able to relax and enjoy the deep water." Later in the evening a potluck, bonfire and music ensued. April 20 Motored to Hawksbill Cay. Variable to no wind. The water is so clear we can see fan coral 25ft down. The boat seems to float in midair creating a shadow on the ocean floor. April 21 Motored onto Allens Cay, Exuma. Allens Cay is one of the few places where Rock Iguannas still exist in the wild. The iguannas came to meet us on the beach, now used to handouts by boaters. We brought some fish scraps and crackers which the lizards engulfed. April 22 Sailed in 15 to 20knot winds from Allens Cay to Egg Island. April 23 Set out at 07:00hrs the wind started strong but soon became variable. We motor sailed 52 miles from Egg Island on Eluthera to Little Harbor, Abaco's. The evening was spent at a beach tiki bar called Pete's Pub. Free fish was handed out by Pete. Deep fried red snapper with a leaf as a plate, it was delicious. April 24 Pete Johnson is the son of Randolph Johnson who was a bronze sculpter. Pete still runs a gallery and foundry on the island. The weather was amazing as usual here, anothere day in parradise. April 25 A wonderful sail. After hunting at Witchpoint Seaesta sailed off the anchor-quiet and peaceful the 3kt sail was relaxing. Sailed to Marsh Harbor which is the third largest town in all of the Bahamas. After briefly visiting the town we all felt melancholy to be back in civilization. The green grass on the lawns looked strange, while the sight of a truck something for a remark. April 26 Anchored in Marsh Harbor. Groceries, school, laundry and engine work becomes an all day event. Heather sprains her back hauling water and washing laundry in buckets.Bend z knees notback! April 27 Motor sailed from Marsh Harbor to Treasure Cay. Five miles out of Treasure Cay we were hit by numerous squalls. The water downpoured so much James needed a snorkle mask to drive the boat in the whiteout conditions. The rain was only temporary and we arrived at the anchorage before more squalls passed through. April 28 Today the boys worked through school very quickly knowing that a beach trip was planned. The beach at Treasure Cay has been rated as one of the top ten beaches in the world - according to the travel channel. For three miles the white sand arcs into a horseshoe filled by the perfect shade of turquoise water. April 29 Boys cutout and decorated cookies on Quixotic. The giggles that ensued were brought on by sugardough and frosting. April 30 Sailed on a broad reach from Treasure Cay to Great Guana Cay. We arrived at a beach bar called Nippers in time for the weekly pigroast buffet. The children (boys on Seaesta, Trinity, Quixotic)spent the whole day swimming while the adults drank and danced the day away. Great time. |
