May 12-31
May 12 Heather needs to get to a dentist but everyone is booked!  No Internet to contact Quixotic, hope they made landfall ok.  We walked to a supermarket and the prices seem so inexpensive after the Bahamas. Milk is only $3 in the states as opposed to $7 in the Bahamas.  Ice cream is cheaper too, we had a little junkfood pig out.
May 13 Fridge has stopped working again, I think it is gone for good this time.  We saw a lot of dolphins swimming near the boat.  We did not see many dolphins in the Bahamas probably due to the prolific amount of sharks there.
May 14
Today is Mothering Sunday in the USA. Unfortunatly my children were not informed by my husband....80degrees variable wind.
May 15 Sailed from the Ponce de Leon inlet to St.Augustine inlet. 57nm. We made good time since the wind picked up.  Storm warnings were given by NOAA and the Coast Guard.  We were traveling right into the storm, but managed to stay just out of the storms path- thankfully.  We arrived at St.Augustine, anchored and watched the lightning off in the distance.
May 16 We have noticed that we are all getting used to the motion of the sea.  We no longer feel land sick after going onshore.  While Bahamian seasickness pills are much better than those that can be obtained in the USA.  Stayed at anchor at St.Augustine.
May 17 A hot shower at the marina, ooooh. We met up with Peter and Bonnie downtown in the evening.  They had just driven six hours to meet us here.
May 18 Bought Red Train tickets, which allowed us to get on and off a train shuttlebus to go around town.  First stop was the "Ripleys Believe it or not" mansion.  There is a lot of wierd stuff in there.   After viewing the town some more, we all went swimming.
May19 Heather went for her teeth to be fixed but the dentist ran out of water and could not drill.  What  is the chance of that?. The children went to the Old Florida Museum as a school field trip.  The museum had lots of hands on exhibits.  The boys made indian abalone necklaces and had pretend indian tatoos put on.  Later we visted the Fort then rushed over to the cinema for a movie.  Heather and James saw the 'Da Vinci Code' while kids and Grandparents watched 'Over the hedge.'  A Grand Day Out!
May20 Spent the day visiting historic St.Augustine with Peter and Bonnie before they drove home.
May21 Hung on the hook and visited churches.
May22 Walked aprox 3 miles to the dentist.. a painful affair.  Walked to Target and was overwhelmed by the selection and availability of "stuff".  Commercialism at its best.  In Maine I would go to Target every week, but now the stuff is just too much.
May 23 James is still working on a few engine problems.
May 24 The engine impeller is fixed, the RPM gage is fixed, the cowl is fixed but the fridge is not fixed. NO vegetables, or fruit ,or milk, or meat can be kept for more than a day . We have a block of ice but it only keeps the fridge to 60 degrees. This is Florida of course where the inside of the boat is 90 degrees.
May 25 We sailed up the coast to the St.John River inlet.  We motored past an aircraft carrier that had just arrived in port from active duty.  Continuing up the ICW we found a creek to anchor.  Seconds after the anchor was set monsoon like rain poured down on us.  Good Timing. at Fort George Creek.
May 26 James is not relishing the thought of going north.  We motored up the ICW to Fernandino Beach.  Then we walked two miles across Ameilia Island to the ocean side beach. Evan and Pierce  collected lots of fossilized bone, a few skate mouths and one shark tooth.  The treasure was found in the sand and dated to animals that lived 20,000 years ago.
May 27 Writing this web page... enjoying the town.
May28 Fridge is still broken. Waiting for the wind to change.
