| March 1st or there abouts, We sailed to Nassua in New Providence. I wouldn't want to live here. Nassau is a casino town, with a lot of crime. We walked around the good areas and bad areas. I was disappointed. Since on one side of the harbor there are million dolloar homes while on the other side of the harbor the windows have bars. The library only had one shelf of childrens books while there were many mothers teaching their children how to read. Sailed down to Georgetown , Great Exuma, for the Sailing Ragatta. March 9th Today is Heather's Birthday. Some other sailors took the kids for the afternoon and James and Heather went out to eat. Unfortunatly James did not book and pay ahead. Food runs out very quickly here in the Bahamas. So we had a choice of burger or burger. That's just the way it is mon. March 10th The Bahamian people are very polite and friendly. It is concidered rude to be in a hurry. Kelby from the boat Quixotic came over to the boat for a sleep over. All the boys had fun. March 11th. Today we had fun in a sandcastle contest. We made an octopus engulfing a boat with the title " honey have you tested the E.P.I.R.B." Later we went into town to watch a variety show. The boys put on a Harry Potter skit which they have been practiceing for the past three days. March 12th Fridge stopped working again. Afaulty fuze was the cuprit this time. March 13th Chores, Chores, Chores but in a beautiful location. March 14th Anchored in Red Shanks anchorage. James went spear fishing and came back with a five pound lobster. We had more lobster meat than we knew what to do with. March 15th We motored over to Long Island. After swimming the boys (Evan, Pierce, Kelby and David) all watched movies aboard Seaesta while the adults went out to a family style resturant We ate at Johnson Bay inn. Reservations are made, the owner makes various dishes and then bowls of food are passed around. March 16th James replaced the oil pressure switch again!! March 17th The north winds have calmed down now so we are traveling in convoy to the Jumentios- an island chain not far from CUBA. Drug smuggling often takes place here, so it is good to travel in a group. American Military and American DEA patol the area occasionally since we are so close to Cuba. March 18th The reefs here are absolutly fantastic. We saw a loggerhead turtle with three sucker sharks hitching a ride. We moved from Water cay to Flamingo Cay and spent the afternoon collecting shells and swimming above the reefs. March 19 -22 Spent a fantastic time at the Jumentios. The islands are deserted and beautiful. March 23 We sailed to Water Cay. In the evening all boats helped create a meal fit for kings at a turn around party. Pork loin, mashed potatoes, fish, crab claws, peas n 'rice, chocolate cake even Port and Stilton. The meal was amazing especially since we were in the middle of nowhere. March 29th Chores at Georgetown, Laundry, water, fuel and food. A whole day event. March 30th Sailed in a blustery 20knots broad reach all the way to Rat Cay. The ocean swell was too much so we moved to Childrens Island. Seaesta crew invited Quixotic crew aboard for dinner. March 31st James went spearhunting again this morning since it is the last day for catching lobster. Midnight tonight is the end of lobster season. We spent the afternoon playing basket ball with the crew of Quixotic. Basketball took place in two feet of water on a sand bank, using skiffs and fishing nets as basketball nets. We had many visitors on the sand bank, no sharks but plenty of skates and rays. |
