December 1st We motored from Titusville, Florida to the Melborne Bridge to anchor for the night. An easy day of 40 st miles. We had cocktails aboard Seaesta with the crew of "Saphire" and "Drifter" Location N23 05.303 W80 35.266
December 2nd We motered to Vero Beach and picked up a mooring. A quick ride on the bus and a power shop gave us groceries for the week. Later we walked into town for a fantastic Christmas Parade. The whole town was there to watch the parade. It felt strange to be sitting at the side of the main street in a tshirt watch Santa. Anyone who wanted to enter the parade was permitted to do so, therefore pickup trucks and lit up floats filled past us for almost three hours. What a nice way to start the festive season. December 3rd From Vero we sailed to the St.Lucy river and anchored off the town of Stuart. Here we had to check if we were able to pass the infamous 49ft bridge along to the west coast. As it turned out the clearance would be fine under the bridge, but the amount of water available under a our keel would be iffy. We decide to give the trip a try and atempt to travel to the west coast of Florida.
December 4th We motorsailed along the waterway and through a lock. Along the way we situated heavy items and water filled containers along the port side tilting the mast down two feet. We didn't stop but just carefully motored under the low bridge clearance. Since this is our third time through this railroad bridge it worked like a charm. Then we sailed across lake Okeechobee in 8ft of water to tie up to some dolphins at Clewiston.
December 5th We traveled through two more locks and numerous bridges motorsailing to the top of the Fort Myers River.
December 6th After a peaceful anchorage we continued past Fort Myers and took a mooring for a month at Fort Myers Beach.
December 7th - December 31 For the rest of December Seaesta remained on the mooring, except for an afternoon sail with friends. We had a peaceful time on land and a repreve from the weather. James often spent time alone on the boat which was nice for all of us. Christmas and its festivities came and went. For New Years the children spent time with Grandparents while Heather and James enjoyed the festivities and fireworks at Fort Myers Beach.
Happy New Year to you all.
