SNL REVIEWS
I have a lot of reviews that I've done so far this year.  After six months of the existence of this new thread, I have make time to put them in its own separate page.  Well, on this page is one of many.  Enjoy
Colin Firth/Norah Jones
Shortly before the Christina episode aired, I was expecting a little break of two weeks.  After all, with a possible slated May 15 finale, it would spread out the 7 remaining episodes quite well.  In other words, wed be looking at the following dates: March 13, 20, and 27, then a break for the Easter Season, followed by April 17, 24, and finally May 8 and 15.

However, with this weeks episode, and a new episode next week, that changes things.  It looks like were looking at the following dates: March 6 and 13, then a break thats not around Easter, then we have a couple on April 3 and 10, followed by two weeks before the three consecutive wrap-up on May 1, 8, and 15 (similar to last year and unlike 2002, my original prediction).  Anyway, I believe thats what the schedule looks like.

TOP STORY

Man, quite a lot of stuff occurred this past week (Stewart going to jail for being stupid over being smart, Kerry clinching the Democratic Presidential nomination, gay marriages) that its really difficult to choose the biggest story.  Since I could care less about the gay marriage crap (although I might rant about that next week), and since Kerrys status will be huge (or just growing) for the next 8 months or so, Ill focus on Martha Stewart a little bit.

It really is kind of difficult to accept the fact that Martha Stewart is in fact going to jail.  Yeah, the same lady that taught us the big aspects of home living is now going to be the same women facing hard time.  We are talking about a sentence of up to 20 years.  Basically, with her age and what not, its pretty much a life sentence at this point.

What if Martha didnt lie?  Then shes be facing up to 10 years, and also, she might not have been convicted at all.  A deal would have worked, like probation or something.  Of course, for getting a tip on something, who could blame her?  Because the last thing one wants is to end up homeless thanks to a possible bust out or something.  I would think that Martha would have had the common sense and skills to survive something like that (or to be there, over prison).  Ill leave this up to the people who have better thoughts on this matter, but who was she fooling?

THE WEATHER

Perfect weather to clean the car this week!  Nice, except that my car is on the way to the shop.  Still, I should have taken advantage of it, but its not as if were done getting 78-degree weather.  Also, my car is dead, so I must deal with the missed opportunity and enjoy my time indoors, away from the cold weather, and doing computer-related tasks such as updating the web-page, managing my game, and writing SNL reviews.  Fortunately, with the most gruesome part of my life out of the way, add that to the free time I have now, and Ill now be writing complete reviews for the remaining seven shows.  Well, close enough to.

SPORTS

My team has clinched the #1 seed for the basketball tourney that will start this coming Thursday.  Nice!  No surprise there.  Its a shame when the only sporting events to be enjoyed are college-sporting events.  Well, whats one to do?  We should have not wasted money on two new stadiums and invested on star-studded players.  Lots of them!  Its should have been enough for us to make some post-season appearances (more so than 1999-2000 NHL and 2001-2002 NFL).

MY GAME

Congratulations to Larry for being the only one to pick ANG as the one that would open the show.  Sometimes its best that you take risks in the game, because you never know what could happen.  That usually separates the winner and the other guy that could have won.  Of course, when youve pretty much secured the MVP title this early in the game, risks can be taken
[Writers NTA: The preceding statement was made on a basis that no one will earn all three multiplier points in one game or that you will earn them again, among other scenarios].  I think I may consider running two games per show in the near future.  Call it a risk-taker and a security risk in one.  Right now, you only got one shot.  At success, and at victory, for every live show!  BTW, as Im writing this, I dont even know if Larry is the winner [Auto edit from Seabreeze: Sorry, but nay; its yet another back-to-back also known as a repeat], but I probably will figure it out before I finish this review.  Thanks to the 10 people that played.  Pretty good week with both the game and the show!  I'll see you all next week.  Make sure to view the Yahoo Group The_Saturday_Night_Live_PG for any questions you may have, for talks on the game, and for SNL as a whole.  It's free and there are no restrictions to be apart of it or to put whatever (so as long as it's not inappropriate and disturbing).  It's a work-in progress.

THE SHOW

I dont know what to expect, besides Martha stuff and what not.  Like people have said before, while Amy rocks, Martha was meant for Ana and thats it.  Either get her to play the role or dont do it.  We dont need to suffer through Amys version of Martha.  Also, theres so much other stuff going on that it wouldnt hurt to look over the lack of doing a Martha segment.  Thanks to TPTB for listening (assuming that they didnt already have this planned out ahead of time).

Lets get to the review.

MARTHA ON NIGHTLINE

Darrell as Ted Koppel; Ana as Martha, and thats it.  Very on point!  Also, this is the first skit that includes both Ana and Will Forte.  Nice!  Of course, Will brought the funny with the enormous bitch line, but it got old real fast.  Of course, seeing Ana would have made it inferior anyway, so what are you going to do?

94/100

MONOLOGUE

After 8 appearances, we the home and studio audience will no longer be treated to Old School Harry Anderson.  Yeah, that means no more Harry the guy who did needle tricks, or Harry the hat, nor Harry the guy that played some guy for some broken bottle.  Oh hell no!  Were treated to the new Harry Anderson, and if you dont cooperate, you dont get to live.  Just ask Skippy.

Oh my bad!  Wrong monologue!  Being wasted for the first time in quite a while will do that to you.  Either way, its a shame where someone recapping the show has to refer to a monologue that aired live 19 years prior to this one.  Although I will give Seth and Amy credit for bringing some of the funny to this one!

97/100 Original score plus 3 for Rachel bringing even more funny into the segment

THE BAD ACCENT

Not much to say here; it must be one of those instances where I actually enjoyed Jimmy Fallon in a sketch, basically due to the fact that his bringing out the massive tool in him was actually worth it here.  We are, however due for a Sully and Denise bit, and isnt it ironic how its been so long since weve seen one, and how Ben Affleck will resurface next week?  I wont be too surprised to not see one, because hey; they didnt do a Go Back To Bed skit when Clay Aiken was on!

93/100

FREDS CHARACTER

This was good.  Thats all Im going to say about this.  Horatios character was quite funny as well.

99/100

SNLTOONS

Did you ever get that feeling where you do something once a week, or something thats going on once a week, and then it surfaces on these cartoons?  I am so not alone here!  Next week, if RBS does a Reality Shows We Dont Want To See SNLTOON, Ill let someone else guess whether or not thats a coincidence.

94/100

TIM CALHOUN

Speaking of signs, the first people to join the cast since ANG left end up getting their own skits outside of Saturday Night News and via their recurring kick-ass characters.  This was real good, and it goes to show that up the entire cast were to get fired, then they wouldnt need anyone else, because WLF could play random characters and have the majority of the show taped (a la 1984-1985).
[Auto edit from snlspy25: You see, SNL will live without Jeff Richards; no recap of one of his past segments needed!] Of course, Seth and Amy can stay.

Pop Survey: Whom do you see leading this cast next season?

A: Will Forte
B:
Jimmy Fallon
C:
Seth Meyers
D:
Amy Poehler
E:
Screech

AND NOW HERE IS TONIGHTS VERY SPECIAL MUSICAL GUEST

Laura Jones.

SATURDAY NIGHT NEWS

OMG!  This was so completely funny!  Everything from the start to the finish was on point.  I guess I could deal with Jimmy and Tina for one more year.  I cant really follow up anything with what they had.  Maybe later.  I post my reviews in three different places (at least).

Comma: First a PC shout-out from the TV Funhouse segment and now this.
Seabreeze: Really?  How so?
Comma: Its one of those things that people tend to overlook.  Someone had something on Paris Hilton marrying This Guy
Seabreeze: Buck Nekkid.  I know.  Okay.  How could I forget?  Hes been in 15 straight PCS.

There are six shows left.  Lets keep up the good work!

100/100

HORNY HOTEL EMPLOYEES

This started off slow, but then it got a little better.

80/100

MEET THE PRESS (Classic from October 14, 2000)

You know, breaking character works a lot less than never.  However, whenever someone breaks Darrells character just a little, you know that several aspects of a skit worked quite well.  It wasnt perfect, but definitely great stuff.

95/100

MEET THE PRESS

Again, this proves to be one of those instances where Will is more than welcome to represent the cast all by himself.
[Auto edit from Comma: Were not forgetting the one from John McCains episode, are we?  I hope not.] He takes a skit, and turns the skit into something real good!

98/100

THE SOPRANOS

Major props for SNL for doing this!  This was completely on point, accurate, and didnt drag out.  Jimmy as Steve himself instead of Silvio was just right up there with everything else.

100/100

MUSIC

While people like Norah Jones, its a shame when nothing she did topped anything that happened tonight.  She didnt suck, but this show was way too good for words.

83/100

BENNY HILL

Perfect!

100/100

Total: 1225

Average after Curve: 94.29

Very great show!  This was definitely the best show of the season.  I agree with people that gave that statement.  Either that, or it was close to the Justin and Jessica episodes.  It was a great show, and possibly the push SNL needs to save the cast.  Of course, a cast overhaul is still in order, but it could wait a year, since Id focus on the writers and not the cast itself.

On the next Saturday Night Live: Ben puts the BENNIFER thing aside to try to top his 2000 performance.  With Forte, Poehler, and Meyers by his side (not to mention the cool side of Dratch and Fallon), it might make the status of the preceding episode short-lived.

Thats it!  Ill see you next week!
