SNL REVIEWS
I have a lot of reviews that I've done so far this year.  After six months of the existence of this new thread, I have make time to put them in its own separate page.  Well, on this page is one of many.  Enjoy
Al Sharpton/Pink
With Al Sharpton hosting, he becomes the third consecutive person whose name begins with an A to host.  Also, he becomes the second consecutive person whose first two letters of his first name start with A and L to host.  In addition, hes hosting almost 20 years after someone similar (Jesse Jackson) hosted.  Before I give a little recap on the show, Ive gotta rant.

TOP STORY

Three new show hit the networks this past week.  I havent decided whether or not to do a poll to see whether The Simple Life, The Tracey Morgan Show, or Line of Fire will be the first to die, or the next or the last.  Ill say right now that Simple Life wont cound since its a reality show thats only tapped to air in American Idols slot until approximately 01/20/04 when AI returns.  So, after ruling out A Simple Life, we ponder upon Line of Fire and Tracey Morgans show and their survival.  Line of Fire has replaced NYPD Blue (until further notice).  The ABC 10 p.m. slot isnt as cut out as it used to be.  Also, its ABC, and this show would have worked so much better on HBO.  In a nutshell, The Sopranos totally kicks the ass of this miscast of a show.  Despite that, Leslie Hope being on the show helps, but thats only if she isnt underused for some reason.  Traceys show seems to have a chance since it also includes a great storyline.  Unfortunately, its up against 24.  But 24 isnt all that great this season.  Too bad Traceys show is getting moved to the same time (or half an hour later) on Thursday, where itll be up against the strong CSI.  Basically, its 50/50.  Well know soon enough; it did so well, so if I had to decide now, Id say Line of Fire will be the first to die.

WEATHER

A lot of people like snow.  Maybe we should switch places.  This past weekend, plans were marred, the weather was cold, and driving was fatal.  Whether you drive on ice, be it going slow or not hitting the pedals, or hitting the gas or the brakes, youre fucked, just like the Pittsburgh Steelers.

SPORTS

Basically, Pittsburgh cant lose a game, nor can Baltimore or Cincinnati win more than one more of their final games.  Its so tight, but it could end in a negative way real fast.  5 teams are officially out, and there arent any teams that have clinched the title as of yet.  During the next week or two, that will change very much in favor of those that officially qualify.  Then we can worry about first-round byes and home field later on.

THE SNL PREDICTION GAME

Well, the scores are not going to be that high (compared to last week), thanks to JIF opening the show, and for only three people surfacing on WU.  Hopefully there are some bonus points to give, so that the week is somewhat decent.  The bonus wont be that much, but itll be there if someone earned it.  I really have been busy to get stuff on my Yahoo group for SNL and the PG, and I tried to get that going during the off weeks, but to no avail.  Im pretty sure that Ill get that taken care of during the break, with all or the most of it done in January.  It will be nice if I manage to get it fully set before the Christmas show, but if its not set by the Show 03k, then I may have to consider its survival and its future.  Feel free to join in the meantime and do/add/say whatever!  Just dont go too overboard, or else we all lose.

THE SHOW

Al Sharpton.  Who would have thought?  Anyway, this will probably channel Jesses show that was done in 1984, in NOT STUDIO 8H.  It really didnt matter where it was done back then, considering half the stuff was taped anyway.  BTW, the musical guests and the goodnights were actually in STUDIO 8H.  I cant explain that part, but again, it didnt matter, it was a great season (84-85).  And Jesses monologue and one of his sketches with Ed Grimley rocked.

MONOLOGUE (classic from October 20, 1984)

Jesse Jackson is actually a hilarious guy.  Hes not always serious, he has a funny side to him!  And so does the staff backstage.  Theyre smart enough to know that theyre about to getting their asses kicked, so what better way to please the host by showing him that they actually have black folks running the show!  You knew that this was going to be a better show than anything similar 19 years later.

96/100

FLYING ED GRIMLEY

Jesse isnt feeling this crap, so again he breaks character and heads backstage.  However, I wouldnt say the white evacuation was the best idea, because what it looks like know is not the fact that African-Americans are running the show, but that theyre being blamed for bad writing.

84/100

And now, the review

COLD OPENING

While this messed up the SNL PG, it was still great.  Sometimes I would rate this based on whether or not it had an impact on my game.  But its not the game that counts; its the skit.  This just proves that Jimmy is bad only when Horatio is there to mess him up.

100/100

MONOLOGUE

Again, no mention of someone being on the show for several sketches!  There is a difference between a cameo and a special guest appearance.  Unfortunately, since he didnt get mentioned in the opening, he can only go down as being on show for a cameo.  To me, this channeled Kevin Klines monologue over 10 years ago.

99/100

MOMS JEANS

This is from last year.  The only problem now is that the season is far from over.  Therefore

Its almost the end of SNL for 2003!  Yay!

60/100

JACKSON ON A ROLLER COASTER

Amy isnt all that great as Jacko, but considering what Jacko has done to his career, it actually is kind of appropriate.

60/100

BRIAN FELLOW

The fact that Ryan Fellow and Sarah Bellow were in this is more than enough to give this skit a decent grade

98/100

THREE WISE MEN

Way too funny to comment

100/100

AND NOW HERE IS TONIGHTS VERY SPECIAL MUSICAL GUEST

I really didnt mind Pink being on the show, but I really didnt mind not paying attention to this tune as well.

80/100

If you would like to add your issues, questions, and/or comments about the review thus far, the remainder of the review, and everything else, HOLLA at the Yahoo address for snlspy25.  Thanks in advance.

SATURDAY NIGHT NEWS

While this messed up the SNL PG, it was still great.  Again its not the game that counts.  Paris Hiltons part wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.  From what Ive heard, she bailed on Letterman to be here.  Imagine if she had bailed on Letterman to be on Jay Leno, or to be on SNL with host Jay Leno.

90/100

MORE TRACEY

Great stuff here.  Nice to see Sharpton enjoying himself.

100/100 original score plus the difference between the original score from 100

FISH

Maybe they should have had Al portraying Derek Jeter in this

56/100

THE SKIT FEATURING THE GUY THAT WILL BEAT DUBYA

This skit got me thinking of one thing, which was similar to the thing in 1999-2000.  One of these guys portraying the Presidential candidate will be the next SNL President.  Whoa

89/100

MUSIC

85/100

THE LATOYA JACKSON SHOW

Good thing they had some good material before the second musical performance.

50/100

VASQUEZ

This just proves that Horatio is bad only when Jimmy is there to mess him up.

100/100

COMMERCIAL

No comment because its a repeat.  In fact, Im too bored to even check what I gave it so Im not even going to score this.

THE LAST SKIT

Basically the title explains it all.

49/100

The show was a lot better than I thought it would be.  If only they had kept the Hardball and Wake up Wakefield sketch, the show would have been better overall.

Despite the real score, Im going to round it up to an 85.00, because thats what I was feeling like giving it for the most part.

Next week is the infamous Elijah Wood.  Thats a surprise host for the Christmas show.

Later.
