| SNL REVIEWS | ||||||||||||||||
| I have a lot of reviews that I've done so far this year. After six months of the existence of this new thread, I have make time to put them in its own separate page. Well, on this page is one of many. Enjoy | ||||||||||||||||
| Justin Timberlake | ||||||||||||||||
| Justin Timberlake becomes the 20th person to host SNL and perform on that same episode as musical guest. If Im not mistaken, sans Britney, hes the youngest person to do double duty. Still, it wont hurt to double check. This is basically a brief review as opposed to a long and regular review. Its like a RECAPLET and not a recap. With this being football season and with me being out last night, if you add that to all the other tasks that are building up and the fact that people are bugging me every. Damn. Day. Theres no way that I can get a decent review in here before the day ends. Theres just not enough time. Its like impossible. I was hoping that it would be just difficult, but now its just impossible. And thats even with me cutting out pretty much everything. Yeah, it should just be difficult, meaning that Id either stay up late and recap, or just crash and then get up early and recap first thing, or even split half the review for being up late and then waking up a little early, which is just plain stupid. Well, its a little dumb, because Id only get 5 hours of sleep, and thats not a lot of rest on a weekend day. Lets see. I have a lot of things to do. I was swamped with work all week, which made me tired as all hell. So, I chose the option of crashing (beyond my control really) and waking up earlier. It turns out that I didnt get up as early, but it really wouldnt have mattered, since Im getting my balls busted anyway, and in addition, I still have stuff to do. Therefore, I gotta get as much or all of it done ASAP so that itll be easier to write a long review and have it posted here on Sunday. Until then, all I have is this recap to follow, but with the two or three other places that I post the reviews, I hope to have that up within the week. I couldnt even finish Jack Black and I needed to change some things, but I didnt and probably wont get to it ever. Enough about me, lets get to the review: TOP STORY: Arnolds Governor of California. Personally, it would have come as a surprise if he didnt get elected. It was so obvious, but 20 years ago, no one would have seen it. WEATHER: WTF. Its like October now, but during the week, it felt like August. While the nice weather is decent, Im in the autumn mode, and prefer a milder climate. I dont want anything less than 35-55 degree F, but temperatures over 65 during this time of the year isnt right when it lasts too long. The same goes for February when it rises to 60 and above. However, February starts the run towards the summer, whereas October is two months removed (or one) and its the holiday season. Whatever. SPORTS: Tampa Bay and Indianapolis? Best. Game. Ever. Except not. It was an awesome game, no doubt, with Tony Dungys revenge and whatnot, but I believe that the Miami-New York MNF game in 2000 was better. It was more realistic, and still more amazing, because New York wasnt about to quit, nor was Miami about to let New York pass them up that easily. JMO, but the game in 2000 was better than this past Mondays game, despite it being Dungys revenge. If you wanna holla feel free to do so. The Yahoo email is snlspy25. Its also disclosed up above where my name is. The Review: Of course several people are not going to get Justin a chance, but whatever. Ten-to-one this will be a reverse of Robert DeNiros episode, where everyone was hoping for the best and got nothing. HARDBALL: Yes! Its great to see this again. Imagine if Darrell had left. There would be no more Hardball. This guy brings the snark all the time. Hopefully the joke on Hardball being shut down was an act (a la Jack Handys Lost Deep Thoughts in 1998). However, the ending was still funny 99/100 MONOLOGUE: Well, this pretty much sucked. 50/100 DOUBLE DUTY: This actually sounded pretty good live, but its losing some points thanks to the segment that preceded this. 87/100 PUNKD Man, this was great stuff! I wished that this had gone on longer, but it really didnt. Of course, that can be a good thing 97/100 ARNOLD PRESS CONFERENCE The only thing that saved this sketch from complete failure was the stuff that was placed at the bottom of the screen 48/100 Original score plus 48 for the stuff that was placed at the bottom of the screen NICK AND JESSICA Sigh. I remember when I used to like Jessica Simpson. Its not often that I remember my nightmares, considering how that jump out of bed immediately so as to forget your dreams and nightmares crap actually works. 0/100 Original score minus 2 for the disappearance of any sympathy I had on this sketch BENNYS VS. OMLETTEVILLE This was alright. I had to laugh because this was bad comedy played by Parnell, which of course worked. 77/100 DIRECTV Im glad that SNL spoofed these. As usual, they did it right. Its commercials like these that make SNL watchable. Now, if they can only do it a few more times, but not too many times. 100/100 THE MINORS FROM BOSTON This was good. 96/100 GENTLEMEN, GOODNIGHT; LADIES, GOOD MORNING Great song; one of my favorites by Justin 100/100 SATURDAY NIGHT NEWS Seriously, every once in a while I dont mind a correspondent-less WU, but the rant is the worst thing that Ive seen since they took over in 2000. 60/100 SHANNON OSBOURNE No comment. 71/100 KERMIT I now completely realize why Fred wasnt bumped up and Will was. Its because of stuff like this. Will deserved the promotion and Carson was right: Hes so damn funnier than Fred. Fred has that Gabe guy, but thats pretty much it. Will doesnt get used that much, and thats how its difficult to notice how great he is. 100/100 CARL In his first appearance on SNL since 1988, he was okay. I basically appreciated this a lot more than necessary because I think Carls awesome. Not awesome enough to get 100 out of 100, but it was just okay. 80/100 GIRLS LOVE JUSTIN Its usually skits like this where I completely talk about stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the skit. However, I really am pressed for time (and Im actually surprised on how this recap isnt as short as I thought it would be). I may not have to add anything else! 40/100 MUSICAL GUEST IS THE HOST OF TONIGHTS SHOW Well, this was pretty decent. I might have to watch it again and give this a higher score. But until I do, this get a 90/100 BARRY GIBB Thank goodness that this wont be recurring; at least lets hope not. 10/100 Original Score plus 10 because Im guessing that this wont ever happen again Average: 70.88 It was an O.K. show. Definitely not as good as Jack Blacks show (sans the MG), but pretty good. Okay, before I go, here are the results of the game: Justin Timberlake: 12 FRA: 1 RAD: 3 JIF: 5 TIF: 1 WLF: 1 DAH: 2 SEM: 1 FIM: 1 CHP: 3 AMP: 3 JER: 4 MAR: 3 HOS: 4 KET: 2 Justin Timberlake: 12 SG: 1 WU: 2 Cold: 4 LFNY: DAH Several people forgot to look at Justin Timberlake both on a hosts outlook, and Justin Timberlake as a musical guest. I did mention that you had to indicate Justin twice in some way that will earn you credit. Youll earn credit for Host points, but not for the MG. If theres a mistake, LMK as soon as possible! Also, if you want to play, feel free to do so. All you have to do is email me your picks in the format above, or you can post in the thread on where the games mainly played (although Id rather you email, esp. if you dont know where the games mainly played). A bigger review should be up within the week, along with the entire result of the SNL Players Prediction Game. The review surfaces in three places: My site in this short version, and then updated later; the final draft on VOY, and then this version on here. Thanks for reading, and see you next week, where well have host Hally Berry and musical guest Britney Spears. Bye. |
