| SNL REVIEWS | ||||||||||||||||
| I have a lot of reviews that I've done so far this year. After six months of the existence of this new thread, I have make time to put them in its own separate page. Well, on this page is one of many. Enjoy | ||||||||||||||||
| Queen Latifah / Ms. Dynamite | ||||||||||||||||
| With Queen Latifah hosting, this marks the first time in 17 years that a female black host hosted Saturday Night Live. Yeah, and the last shuttle explosion also took place 17 years ago. All jokes aside (and with apologies to the offended), I dont think that shell do as bad as soon people think shell do. However, the fact that this show follows a Walken-hosted show gives Queen Latifah a challenge. Normally, I usually do that pre-review thing, and I actually have a lot to rant about, but Im pretty tired, and even if I wasnt, I wouldnt do it. Theres only room to talk about one thing thats bigger than all of the other things put together. MISTER. FRED ROGERS I'm glad to see that I'm far from being the only one who loved Mr. Rogers. It hit me pretty hard (probably harder than most) when he died last Thursday. Being from the same area of Pennsylvania, it's a big blow when someone, especially someone as nice as Mr. Rogers, passes away. I met him, no joke, 20 years ago, and he was so kind, that he made other kind people I knew look not so kind. I've run into him and conversed several times between then and now, but despite not actually being the best of friends with him, he was always a friend to me, and I always respected him. Now that he's gone, the world is a sadder place. Mr. Rogers will forever be considered one of my best friends. If there's anyone that deserves to go to Heaven, it's him. "Any man's death diminishes me." - John Doone Goodbye Mr. Rogers. We all love you and you will be missed by everyone. MY GAME Its hard to believe that there are only six more shows left, which means that there are six more games before the big awards outlook and the end of the season. The winner this week has already won the game this year. It seems that for the most part, the person who wins the game, as of the Jeff Gordon show has already won at least once, and its never occurred where someone won the game twice in a row. Anyway, the results will surface soon. Also, someone earned all three multiplier points, which pretty much means that for every point earned, its worth 30 total points. This has happened before, but that was thanks to a technicality where a bird opened the show. THE SHOW Coincidentally, one of the sketches that was cut had Queen Latifah portraying Oprah, the last female African-American host to guest host on SNL. This should be a great show. Well see. And now, the review 60 MINUTES When Darrell came on as Clinton, I was like, Finally! I consider Darrells impression of real people as recurring roles, and Clinton is his best role. When Darrell came on as Clinton, I enjoyed it the best I could, since this could have been his only appearance tonight. Dan Ackroyd as Dole didnt really add anything to the sketch, nor did it take away. Basically, it was DAA as Dole as Ackroyd. 86/100 MONOLOGUE At first, I got upset over the fact that HOS and SEM were interrupting Queen Latifahs monologue, for she doesnt need help in order to be funny, especially with this cast. Then I got it, and then 82/100 BABY K At least Dean was given something to do. 84/100 = original score plus 6 for Dean being given something to do. REGIS (AND KELLY) Amy cracked me up as Darrell. Clearly, this skit wasnt about Queen Latifah AI character; it was about Amys Kelly Ripa. Darrells a lucky guy. I dont have any comment on Chriss Gelman. 88/100 = original score plus 10 for the ongoing Ripa joke. SOMEBODY RIPS ONE OUT This wasnt good at first. Then I changed my mind about this. I had to laugh. Normally, Id conclude that this was humor for a 14 year old, retarded, and maybe deaf and blind SNL fan. However, Im getting sick of all these reality shows, that debut bi-weekly. Im glad that SNL came up with one of their own, something original. 94/100 WHERE ARE THEY NOW I really dont have any comment, and I shouldnt grade this. All I can say is, I didnt hate it. 77/100 IM A CELEBRITYWHO FARTED? This wasnt bad; it didnt suck. However, I didnt laugh this time. Once was enough, and normally things come in threes when it gets boring. I think if they were to get more laughs a second time around, I would have done something like this: 7 Celebrities, one 8 by 11 room. Somebody is breaking wind. It could be one person. It could be two people. It could be, ALL OF THEM! Who will survive. The last person to leave the room wins. SOMEBODY CUT THE CHEESEGET ME OUT OF HERE! Coming April 1 on ABC. 83/100 SATURDAY NIGHT NEWS Its amazing how Jimmy cant keep a straight face, but right after Tinas jokes, he doesnt even come close to not smiling. I believe next year is Jimmys last (at least at the Desk). JERS Dustin was excellent, and makes up for the nonsense known as Baby K. Its pretty scary that HOS as Khalid Shaikh Mohammed resemble each other (HOS looked almost EXACTLY like him)! Chriss Trevor came out of nowhere, in similar fashion as JERS Louie Anderson from last year. Overall, this was great. 96/100 MUSIC I have never heard of Mr. Dynamite, and thats too bad for her. Eventually, shell be heading into Joe Piscopos crew, or maybe wherever A-HA went. 60/100 GIVE UP THE HAM This is part of the review where I just dont care anymore. However, I think WLF and CHP saved this sketch from going completely nowhere. 82/100 X-PRESIDENTS Nice! No matter what, its great to see these cartoons back. RBS did a great job here. The Powerpuff girls thing was just priceless. 99/100 (original score plus 7, representing how long TV Funhouse has been on SNL) PROFILES IN JAZZ: ALBERTA JONES Thanks to this sketch, I declare Darrell as the player of the night. It was basically old school night. First Clinton, and now Jack Perkins. I didnt really pay attention to the other stuff; Jack Perkins was all this needed to get 100/100 WALGREENS The only funny part was the end, where they all laughed and the screen froze, a la several TV shows back in the day. 63/100 TRIBUTE TO MR. ROGERS We love ya, Freddy, and well never forget you. 100/100 AVERAGE 85.29 The show was above average. Also, its worth watching during reruns. Lets hope Salmas show will be worth watching during reruns. See you next time. |
