Dear StLCW Patrons, Firstly Id like to apologise for the grammatical errors in the first column I wrote. Its what you get for typing when youre knackered. Secondly I thought Id note a sort of disclaimer as I tackle the issue of the booking at St Lukes. The following is my opinion only and is not meant to offend, but provide food for thought. Ill start by stating the obvious some of you like the current style of booking and some of you dont. This is typical of any federation even something the size of St Lukes. A booker cannot keep everyone happy at the same time and this is where people cross the line and can become personal. The majority of you however probably sit on the fence as I do, agreeing that the booking is mediocre, not abysmal but not perfect. Im going to look at the positive and negative of whats going on at the moment. Whether you agree with my complaints or suggested improvements I hope you enjoy reading At present there are some new ideas and strong gimmicks, whether originally conceived by Boz or by others they are being pushed and helped along e.g. Yurgen Throbbe and Cardinal Yeomans etc. This variety can only be a good thing. I do not however believe that the ideas and views of everyone at StLukes are being listened to enough. It is fair to say Ive heard some crap ideas in my time at StLukes (some making it to ring, some not-thankfully) but there have been some damn good ones where the booker at the time has not been the sole creator. Other peoples opinions especially when developing their character should be taken into account. Boz alone cannot take StLukes to its highest level of creativity, it needs input from everyone else. However saying this, ideas should be discussed not forced either way whether coming from Boz or the wrestler. I personally am happy in general with my angles and have had opportunity to have an input. However I think that I have been stuck with angles that have become a running joke- someone hits me and Moriarty feuds with the guilty party and thats that. It worked well the first time with Mimick Master, no disrespect to anyone else whos been in these angles but they are too straightforward. One of the positive points about the booking at the moment is that it is well planned. Matches are told in advance most of the time so people can practice and things are prepared so nothing should go wrong. Saying that though there needs to be more freedom to deal with unforeseen circumstances, it seems there is panic when people turn up late or not at all. Matches/promos need to be more versatile so that they can be changed at the last minute if needs be and still get angles across. Whilst talking about people not being there: Id like to think that everyone like me has a life outside StLukes and that there are things they would put before it. I dont know the full story about the Iron Mike sacking/reinstating but if what I heard is true then I cannot see a reason why he was fired in the first place. Ive had time off to go to gigs, holidays etc its just a matter of priorities and other things come first sometimes. But hey Im changing subjects Further more on the topic of organisation, a booker needs to be able to read the crowd. Personally I think the only significant time Boz has got this wrong is when Mimick Master was not given a title shot last volume when he had mega heat. Luckily Mimick Master has saved some of this heat and as Boz said in his own column he is primed to get that title in a volume in the near future (hopefully!). Maybe Im just a huge mark for Mimick (no pun intended). One of the things that helped settled Boz as a decent booker in my mind, was the scrapping of the cruiserweight belt. Those classed as cruiserweights were only used for something to open with and were not allowed to be taken seriously. The integration of them with everyone else was important to StLukes it gave fresh ideas for angles. I would hope to see a former cruiserweight have a title shot one day to prove its not about age its about effort. At this point in time for those of you unhappy with the booking Im afraid youll have to wait, as I cannot see anyone else to take over. Some people may have great ideas and others are dedicated to StLukes but that does not mean they would be any better. If anyone thinks they could do better theyll have to prove it before they get my backing. Although Boz is far from a perfect booker he has some good ideas, commitment and organisational skills. We should all remember, me included, StLukes should not be taken too seriously. It was created for fun or so Im told. I apologise for the digression and not getting straight to the point but I get passionate about StLukes as we all do from time to time If I missed anything or youd like to comment e-mail me or speak to me in person. Yours, Miss Rebecca XXX [email protected] |
