• Everyone has a top ten, heck David Letterman has a top ten list on his late show every night. Well I've decided to compile a few top ten lists of films that I love and base it on one very important factor: REVIEWABLITY. As in, no matter how many times *I* watch the movie, I'll never get tired of it.
  • And these lists will be separated into genre and then perhaps a miscelaneaous list, cause there are films out there that are just plain weird.
  • It's my top ten and I know those who will stumble upon this web site will either sneer at the list, gasp in outrage at a movie they believe I've snubbed or shake their heads at my total lack of movie respectability at what's a good movie.
  • To put things in perspective, I was 26 years of age when I compiled this top ten list, so I have not really delved into the "old" school/classical movies but am old enough to appreciate how bloody excellent "Jaws" was, so be warned, my movie tastes will be vearing towards more "modern" movies. My main judgement of placing a movie into my top ten is how well the movie plays out on reviewability, I can watch the movie over and over and it's still a damn good watch (which means I have most of these movies, is that sick or what!!! Hell I know a guy who's got 200 dvds!!!). And to make it easier, I've decided to make different top ten lists: i.e. a top ten for comedies, action movies...you get my drift.

  • So, here goes nothing....drumrolllllllllllllll:

MY ALL TIME TOP TEN FAVE MOVIES

Number 10: The Silence Of The Lambs (The only reason being it introduced us to Anthony Hopkins playing Hannibal Lecter. I know there was a previous film called Manhunter, but Mr. Hopkins wasn't freaking people/me out as Lecter. You da man Sir Anthony...)

Number 9: Jaws (A couple of scenes make me want to revisit this movie again and again - When Richard D's character see's the shark attack victim and his reaction: "May I have a glass of water please. This wasn't a BOATING ACCIDENT!!!" And his hissy fit at Robert Shaw. The dead head popping out from under the boat still freaks me out...I keep yelling out at the TV screen: "You got me again you bastard!!!!" after I jump.)

Number 8: Alien (You forget the plot, key scenes and what happens and thank god for movie memory loss, cause you still get the crap scared out of you when you watch this movie. It is claimed that this is the scariest movie ever made. I don't know if they did a poll, but I totally agree. The Ring doesn't hold a candle to this movie....You also keep saying: "Watch your back!!" quite a bit.)

Number 7: Midnight Run (A movie that NEVER fails to make me laugh my ass off. When you rent it, I'm sure you'll want to buy it. One of the few movies, where De Niro breaks character...well kind of. As well everytime Joey Pants picks up the phone and his reaction that De Niro is on the other end is PRICELESS!!!)

Number 6: LA Confidential (You know a movie is damn fine, when the first few minutes you're already going "This movie is awesome" and you realise....you're only at the beginning...and you settle in for a kick ass movie. And I do think Kim Basinger's performance is overrated for her to win the Oscar...but I reckon she won it for the line: "...You like to say 'f*ck alot don't you??'")

Number 5: American Beauty (I am partial to Kevin Spacey and the first few minutes of this movie, particularly the shower scene sets the tone of the movie....a drama that's a comedy, which explains why I LOVE The West Wing)

Number 4: Forrest Gump (Hey, I don't know how many times I said "Go Forrest" or "Forrest you ROCK!!!" But I keep coming back to this quote: "GUUUUUUUUUUUUUMP WHAT IS YOUR SOLE PURPOSE IN LIFE!!!!!!")

Number 3: The Godfather 1&2 (Impossible to rate one better than the other)

Number 2: The Shawshank Redemption (I'm a huge Stephen King fan and this time the movie is ACTUALLY better than the book!!!)

Number 1: Pulp Fiction (Hey, Travolta doing the twist and Samuel L. Jackson chucking a tantrum while washing the inside of the car, need I say more???)

TOP TEN ACTION MOVIES OF ALL TIME

Well perhaps it's time to go from one end of the IQ scale to the ahem "low" end of the IQ scale. The prototypical kickass "action" movies. Which are my faves? Read on....

Number 10: Sudden Death (Probably the peak of Van Damme's movie career IMHO - yes yes I know, all you Van Damme fanatics will tell me about Kickboxer, No Where To Run, Universal Soldier, yes I know millions of people hated this movie, BUT I ENJOYED THIS MOVIE. Probably my crediblity has just been thrown out the window by even listing this movie.....ah well...).

TOP TEN ROMANTIC COMEDIES OF ALL TIME

Now to movies that you might want to watch if you're a little sad and want to feel good about yourself and life in general and have a bit of laugh along the way. I base most of the romantic comedies I like on the fact they are actually FUNNY. So The Notebook fans will be disappointed, these movies are comedies, not all straight out Titanic romance.

Here we go: Number 10: Sleepless in Seattle (Sure it's heavy on the romance, but there's some clever and laugh out loud scenes and one liners)

Number 9: While you were Sleeping (Again, perhaps heavy on the romance, but hilarious in some sequences and an ending that will make you smile....)

Number 8: The Truth about Cats and Dogs (I'm a Janeane Garafolo fan and I found this movie a great watch and never get tired of it - some great lines and funny moments)

Numbver 7: Roxanne (Steve Martin at his most genial role in a movie which has everything a romantic comedy needs and made me feel good after watching it)

Number 6: Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hugh Grant, some great lines, scenes and a great cast of characters, never get tired of it)

Number 5: Love Actually (Hugh Grant again - some hilarious conversations with his love interest in the movie, a few sad moments that showed love is in the form of many things (Laura Linney character's brother) and boy, I'd sure like to visit Milwaukee!!!)

Numbver 4: Hitch (The movie that gives every average single man out there hope - and that's what a good romantic comedy does, let's the single guy think "What if?!" and this movie provides some great laughs and well...Eva Mendez, 'nuff said)

Numbver 3: 10 Things I Hate About You (A teeny bopper comedy perhaps, but this movie is FUNNY. The theme is based on the Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, with a great cameo by Allison Janney and great laugh out loud scenes. Fave lines:

    "And she likes pretty boys..."

"What, you don't think I'm pretty!"

    and

    "...maybe she's..."

"No, she's not a KD Lang fan..."

Never get tired of watching the movie)

Number 2: When Harry Met Sally (Probably my favourite romantic comedy for most of my adult life until another movie was release (see below). Just the perfect romantic comedy and one of Billy Crystal's best performances on film and of course Meg Ryan's "scene" at the restaurant has become a trademark and warning to the guys about thinking they're THAT good in bed)

Number1: Notting Hill (I'm not sure if there's been another romantic comedy like this - I'm sure I'll be corrected but I haven't actually seen a movie that has this kind of plot. It would be a one off and if duplicated wouldn't feel right. The reactions of the characters are great when first meeting Julia Robert's character and fave line is:

    "...YOU DAFT PRICK!"

Will probably seen the movie 2-3 times a year and never ever get tired of it).
