When we think about the words that describes our father the words gentle, kind, loving and patient come to mind. He had an undying love for his family, which includes his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. |
| To his wife he was always the most gentle and loving husband each and every day of their almost 66 years of marriage. In the last few years he has been her caregiver as her physical health has declined, which he did with his most gentle and loving way. |
| To his children he was always there for them and we always knew that he not only loved us, but also liked us. He loved to share the things in his life with us. |
| I, Jeanette, remember my father playing the guitar and singing this to me when I was young: |
My horses shied when they saw her and down the street the flew |
They flew right past my pretty little girl--My little girl dressed in blue |
| As a child I, Shirley, can remember long talks with my father in the barn, as he would milk the cows. I know he always enjoyed talking to me and his love for me was never questioned. |
| His grandchildren and great-grandchildren all knew and loved him. He made sure that they all had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. |
| He truly liked people and he loved to tease the children letting them know he liked them and putting a smile on their faces. To everyone he knew he was always friendly and kind, not saying an unkind word about anyone. |
| To strangers he would always say something cute to put a smile on their faces. |
| As a child we were told he was a mischievous child. One story that we remember, is when he was young 3 or 4 years old he put some chickens in a 10 gallon can and put the cover on it. When his father found them he asked, "Who did it?" Dad was no where to be found as his sister Della had put a clothesbasket over him. His father looked around and called for him, when he had called several times, Dad pushed the basket up and said, "Here I am." When he was asked if he did it, he said, "No I did not." Then his father said, "Yes you did, someone saw you," and Dad said "No they didn?t, I looked and no one was looking." I'm sure at this very young age that Dad did not see the humor in this at the time, but he enjoyed humor and would often say something that would make us laugh. |
| His granddaughter, Lynnette, remembers her grandfather telling her when Mom wanted Dad to wash the windows he said, "I don't mind washing windows, but I do mind washing CLEAN windows." |
| His grandson Ronnie remembers when he had a very small cut on his figure and he wanted his grandpa to put a Band-Aid on it, the cut was so small that Dad couldn't see it, but to make Ronnie feel better he put a bandage on it. After he did Ronnie went to his grandmother to show her as Dad had put the bandage on the wrong figure. |
| Both of the grandchildren remember staying with their grandparents every Friday night so they could go to the Children's Meeting. When the junior livestock show was on at the auction barn their grandfather took them to it. These are very precious memories for them. |
| On January 26, 1934, Mom and Dad married on his 21st birthday. The birds were singing and the sun was shining so brightly. She thought that the birds were happy for them. They didn't have much as far as earthly goods were concerned, but that didn't really matter, for they had an undying love for each other. |
| From this union we were born. We have many times thanked the Lord for choosing this couple to be our parents to be raised in the most loving of Christian homes. To let us have them for so many years and when it was time for Dad to go home it was quick and without a lot of pain. |
| Today we say goodbye to our father. Our tears today are not for him, but for ourselves for we now have to live without him, we never see his smiling face, or heard his beautiful voice again. As for Dad we know what the Lord Jesus said, "that in His Father's house are many mansions and He has prepared a place for us." And today Dad is there with his Lord and master. |
