| Northern Clubs | Along with high school wrestling in Northern Ontario, we have some very successful wrestling clubs, where wrestlers may also develope into open class wrestling. These clubs often pool the collective talents and experience from several high school coaching staffs as well as former community wrestlers. Fundraising events are held to assist the members in attending tournament, clinics and trips. When the Nationals are held in Calgary or Vancouver, the costs are understandably high. Wrestlers participating at the club level may attend Provincials, Nationals and Worlds as well as many other "Open" tournaments. There are different weight classifications, age classifications and a few different rules for "Open" wrestling. This is essentialy the same wrestling as in the Olympics. Many Olympic wrestlers started at the high school level, joined a club for more experience and went on to University teams before becoming an Olympic team member. |
