The rhyming poet, it seems
is accused of limited scope
and as someone who tries to sew thing up too easily
but ends up sounding like a dope.
The poem itself is the key
rhymed poems sound too slick
and non-rhymers love to ponder destruction, lesbianism, righteousness,
environmentalism, and racism
with poems nice and thick.
Non-rhymers believe the process
should be as difficult as can be maintained
so it takes the reader three cappuccinos and fifteen times through to realize
that the poet was upset with his mother for having been weaned too young,
which leaves the reader unsatisfied, drained.
Ive known several of these poets
and its anybodys guess
why they spend so much damned time trying to work in words like "tepid"
and "sanguine"
for poets theyll never impress.
The poems I have in sight
are the ones people can read to kids
and even if it takes a couple extra syllables a line to get it right
I hope the readers glad I did.
