Overcoming the Seventies

Okay, this is the one that inspired this whole "NOTE" thing, because, if you know I'm a lame ass white boy, you'll wonder what the fuck I was thinking. This was an assignment for an earlier poetry class when we were asked to speak from a different perspective. I was more comfortable changing races than genders because, frankly, I still don't understand women and the results were destined to be inauthentic. Still, I tried to capture a feeling of what it was like to grow up weaned on tv, but having no one on the screen represent me or my life. Sanford and Son, Good Times and Isaac on The Love Boat were the only examples of blacks in the tv I grew up with. I hope this doesn't come off as anything more than I was trying to make it. I was at least stepping outside of myself and trying to imagine what it might have felt like.
