Book Covers, Scientific/Adult Educational Publishing

Book covers. You know what? They say you can't judge a book by its cover. I don't know who "they" are in this instance, but they're only half right. If the cover's appealing, the book might get picked up. If it's not, chances are it won't... unless it's a big-name author... or a school textbook.

Cover/Dustjacket
The first cover I worked on was designed on computer but sent to the printer as a mechanical pasteup! This was also the last cover to be sent this way.
Cover/Dustjacket
A major percentage of this publishing company's sales comes from herpetology books; second is reprints of out-of-print books. This book was nearly lost forever. For its revival, I created silhouettes from some of the scanned photos.
Cover/Dustjacket
The author's wife drew nearly a hundred coral snake scale patterns. They all had to be scanned and prepped for print.
Cover/Dustjacket
By far my favorite cover! The author/photographer took an incredible shot of the Arima Valley, and I covered the whole dustjacket with it.
Cover/Dustjacket
The creation of a new series and the master template for covers. If you're a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, you may recognize the borders as being remarkably similar to the computer displays...
Paperback Cover
Another series book, but one for which the cover plates were lost. Everything had to be recreated, including the logo artwork. For this particular book, I also had to recreate around 60 orbital mechanics diagrams.
Paperback Cover
Another series book that suffered the lost plate
fate. All the artwork need to be recreated. Each title in this series also gets a new spot color (printed at full and and a percentage coverage).
Additional Info:
There is a lot more in the hardcopy portfolio. Of particular interest may be the advertising, most of which I have only in printed form.
