Fall 2003:
Martha Broadhurst is writing a book about Peter Francisco in which she will depict Peter in fiction to attract young readers.

May 11, 2003:
Eric and Jennifer Wilson of Colorado Springs, CO, welcomed twin sons, Kaiden and Connor.  Proud grandparents are Bill and Anne Wilson; proud Aunt and Uncle are Erin and Christopher Mwalwanda.

October 2002:
Edith Francisco Buckley and Quentis Massey receive first SDPF Lifetime Membership Awards.  The award, given at the October meeting, is designed to honor members who have displayed dedication and commitment to the Society for a period of at least 20 years.

June 8, 2002:
Congratulations to 1st Vice President Erin Wilson, who married Mr.  Christopher Mwalwanda in Williamsburg, Virginia.

July 19, 2002:

Completing its Centennial project, the DAR (Commonwealth Chapter) honored Peter Francisco by marking his tombstone in Shockoe Cemetery. 

March 17, 2002:
Dr. Keith McKenney, Ph.D. was the keynote speaker at our March meeting in Richmond, Virginia.  He is Associate Professor, School of Computational Sciences at George Mason University.  He specializes in and spoke about DNA testing and how it could relate to proving the Peter Francisco's of Virginia and the Azores are one in the same.

February 2002:

The winners of the Peter Francisco Essay Contest are Robert Samuel Dilley for his essay "Peter Francisco:  Giant of the Revolution" and Sarah E. M. Davis for her esay "The Giant."  Both winners will be awarded prizes at the March 17th meeting in Richmond, Virginia.

October 2001:

Mr. Anthony Grappone, employee of Shockoe Cemetery, made needed repairs to the damaged tombstone of Peter Francisco.

September 2001:
Peter Francisco Essay Contest for all members under 18 years of age.

February 2001:
Robert F. Grimes, Jr. of Suffolk, Virginia won newsletter naming contest.  His entry of "The Virginia Giant" was selected by the Board and he received a copy of
Peter Francisco -- The Portuguese Patriot by William Arthur Moon.

February 2001:

We are saddened by the passing of SDPF member and first Recording Secretary Sallie Edwards (Mrs. Charles) Bowman.

November 20, 2000:

We are saddened by the passing of SDPF member Evelyn Shorter (Mrs. Lynwood) Glenn of Roahoke, Virginia.

November 19, 2000:

We are saddened by the passing of SDPF member and former Board member Louise Albertson DeVere of Athens, Georgia.

October 2000:
Longwood College Professor Brian Bates gave a slide show and lecture at the SDPF meeting.  He spoke on the archaeological excavation and finds at Locust Grove.

October 29, 2000:

Elmar Oliveira receives the thirteenth Peter Francisco Award from the Portuguese Continental Union of the United States of America.  The banquet's keynote speaker was the Honorable Edmund Dinis, SDPF member and the tenth recipient of the Peter Francisco Award.  

Fall 2000:
We are saddened by the passing of SDPF member Charles Bowman.

March 20, 2000:
We are saddened by the passing of SDPF member Marguerite Hudgins (Mrs. Howard A.) Shorter of Farmville, Virginia.

February 4, 1999:
We are saddened by the passing of SDPF member Elizabeth Shorter of Roanoke, Virginia.
The purpose of the Society of the Descendants of Peter Francisco
is to compile and maintain the documented records of Peter Francisco and his descendants
and to give Peter Francisco his rightful place in history.
