| EVA was born in 1888, at Meridian, in Wm. Dowkes Jr.'s log house. She married Wm. Gillies, who after teaching school for a number of years, later studied law. They moved to Saskatoon and Mr. Gillies worked as a lawyer in Biggar, Sask. most of his life. Eva is still living in Saskatoon, with a daughter. She is ninety years of age at time of writing (January, 1979). Mr. and Mrs. Gillies had four children, Marjory, Viola, Charles, and Kenneth. HARRY was born in 1890 in Wm. Dowkes Sr.'s log house, Meridian. He married Bertha Johnson. Their family consisted of three girls and two boys, Gloria, Elsie, Hazel, Harry (drowned while very young) and Harry 2nd. This family lived a few years at Trail, B.C. where Harry worked in a mine. In later years, they lived at Castlegar, B.C., where they had a small orchard. Harry died in 1973 at Castlegar. OLIVE was born in 1891 in the log house by the river on '16'. She was married to Arthur Head, a veteran of world wars one and two. They had two chosen sons, Harold and Roy. They lived at Vancouver most of their lives. Olive Head still lives at Vancouver at time of writing (January, 1979). She is eighty-seven years of age. She has supplied us with most of this history. CHARLES was born in 1893 in the log house at '20'. He married Margaret McGregor, a school teacher. He was wounded in World War 1, had a leg amputated, resulting in much discomfort and need for medical care and was a semi-invalid the rest of his life. He passed away in 1957 at the military hospital in Calgary, Alberta. They had no family. MABEL was born in 1895 in the log house on'20'. She married Joseph Jeffers and they had two sons, Kenneth and Bruce. Mabel is still living with her son, Kenneth, at Vernon, B.C. (1979). There are many descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dowkes living in various parts of Canada |
