Selig to answer fans' questions
Third-ever Town Hall Internet chat set for Monday

By Barry M. Bloom / MLB.com

Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig is planning to chat it up with baseball fans around the world via MLB.com in his third-ever Town Hall Internet chat session this Monday during FanFest festivities, just hours before the start of All-Star Monday activities at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
Beginning right now, fans can pose questions to the Commissioner by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
Selig will spend about an hour answering questions posed only on the Internet at the MLB.com area in the John Hancock All-Star FanFest located at Chicago's McCormick Place beginning at 2 p.m. ET (1 CT). The Town Hall will be carried live on MLB.com.
The FanFest, which is open for four days, began on Friday.
Last year, Selig's Town Hall session, coming a day before the All-Star Game in his hometown of Milwaukee, was a lively affair that lasted about 35 minutes.
Seeming at ease at the microphone and sounding glib as he responded to 18 different online questions, Selig entertained a live audience that included about 100 members of the media.
This year's live audience will also include fans who gather in the MLB.com area during the Town Hall chat session.
Last year, Selig answered questions that ranged from baseball's labor problems to Interleague play to contraction to whether the sport has any plans to expand internationally. Selig skirted no issues, either in the chat session or in a brief question-and-answer session with reporters afterward.
Look for this year's Town Hall chat to be just as informative and entertaining.

Judge releases jailed Canseco for five days

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press

MIAMI -- Former baseball star Jose Canseco was released from jail Wednesday after making a special request to be freed for a five-day visit with his 6-year-old daughter.
Canseco, the American League MVP in 1988, has been in jail since last month after allegedly violating probation a second time for a nightclub scuffle. Canseco was ordered held until a court hearing July 21 on whether he violated his probation by testing positive for steroids.
Canseco's daughter is visiting from California, where his ex-wife lives.
Canseco, who retired from baseball last year, was charged with his twin brother, Ozzie, for the 2001 brawl in Miami Beach. He was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty last year.
Jose Canseco already violated his probation by leaving Florida for several weeks and failing to start community service and anger management classes. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years of house arrest. He was warned that further violations could result in a 15-year prison sentence.
