Information from "Dancing with the Wheel", by Sun Bear, Wabun, And Mulligan, C 1991
Collecting all of the stones for a medicine wheel could take years, therefore, it may be necessary to substitute plant or animal totems in their place.  Using more than one of the elements associated with a given position can enhance the energy within the medicine wheel.  Cleansing should be performed prior to the construction with Sage to ensure that no impurities are brought into the circle. You may also wish to cleanse any stones or other items which you plan on brining into the medicine wheel (as well as other people).
