| Here, a Compaq Armada 17xx Setup Bootable CDROM image.CPQCS_P2.ISO Right-click and choose Save As. Save the file as "CPQCS_P2.ISO". Make SURE TO SAVE IT WITH AN ISO EXTENSION! (Yahoo Geocities limited file manager does not allow alternate filenames to be uploaded) This file is for those persons who: 1. Without a Floppy drive in their 17xx, only a CDROM/DVD, who need to run setup. 2. Those with a CDROM, who don't want to put the floppy drive in just to run setup. 3. Those who don't want damage their OS installation, by installing the Setup partition AFTERWARDS. Just use this CD instead. Select the first option 'Run Setup' when booting with the Setup CD. Sometimes you will get a screen saying 'Options will not be saved because this computer is password protected', when the computer is -not- password protected. Power down and try again. Tips: Set a Tag to display at bootup (Your name and Mobile number) 'Compaq' screen. Bios defaults = hardware conflict: Fix by Changing the Infrared Port to 'Configuration 1'. Turn off ACPI Enable if you're running Linux. The ACPI is not fully implemented, and your fan won't start on a cold boot.* And Fn+F11 several times immediatly after a power on, resets CMOS/BIOS settings. You will know when it works. Thanks Rainald and MMCARTER at the (sometimes functional) HP Forums. |

| * It is possible to get another same small fan, used to cool the compaq, inserted and hooked to the power (I postulate). The 'fan not starting with linux' problem also is a problem with upgraders, who have put a P3-650 - 850 processor in their Compaq Armada 1750's (850 runs at 700mhz, similar thermal dissipation), and added a 16-chip 100mhz 256 meg memory SO-DIMM (extra heat, for sure!), and used the latest video drivers (which seems to disable the ability of power management to blank the LCD backlight, extra heat). |
