| Lent is approximately six weeks long. It is commonly thought of as forty days. This symbolic number comes from its use in the Bible. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday morning and ends at sunset of Holy Thursday. Lent is a penitential time and a time of preparation. It is a time for us to look deep within and seek spiritual renewal in Jesus. It is also an intense final period of preparation for candidates in the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Communion which they will celebrate for the first time at the Easter Vigil. The scriptures for Year A of Lent are used during any year in which the RCIA is celebrated. Lent is a spiritual journey with the Lord from the desert, to calvary and finally to the Resurrection at Easter. | |||||||||||||||||||
